Do you prefer Trump, DeSantis, or the Democratic candidate in 24'?

I live in Florida and voted for Trump in the 2016 Florida primary and in the 2016 and 2020 general elections. I supported many of Trump's policies and I consider his presidency to be a successful one on behalf of the American people, particularly for poor and middle-class Americans.

With that said, I prefer that Trump step aside and endorse Ron DeSantis. In my view, DeSantis is far and away the best candidate.

As for the Democrats, my guess is that Biden will NOT run and that Newsom will be their nominee. It's also my guess that Newsom will "win" the election and be installed as the new president and that he will be a DISASTER for the American people just like his predecessor.

What are your thoughts?

Trump and Desantis will not run together IMO. Makes your point moot.

Support policies, deem said policies “successful,” decide to go in a different direction regardless.

Seems to make sense. And no doubt, this is very similar to the position of many others, somehow. Folks are entitled to their opinion though.

I never said that they would "run together". Trump would take DeSantis in a heartbeat but I'm confident that DeSantis doesn't want to associate his brand with Trump.

Sadly, there are many voters, such as suburban white women, that are offended by Trump and will NOT vote for him.

As well, I will add that Trump made some staggeringly terrible hiring choices. Jeff Sessions. William Barr. Christopher Wray. John Bolton. I could on and on and on.

With DeSantis, we get many of Trump's policies but we also get a more electable candidate. That's why I would like for Trump to step aside and endorse DeSantis.

I would love to see Trump become 47. He would not make the same type of mistakes he did in his first term. He would definitely go scorched earth in his second and clean house. Then hand off to DeSantis to rule and reign for 8 years…

Whoever opposes the Democratic candidate in 24'. I DGAS if that opponent is Al Capone ... and FWIW, I'm not even a Republican.

Trump needs to step aside and endorse DeSantis. There is just no other way if we want to win in 2024.

I'd be fine with either Trump or DeSantis. I think Trump would continue to do a good job as president like he did in his previous term, but I think that he'd also be a bit more careful about who he put in what positions. I think he might pull a "Harry Truman" on some of the top military brass as well. (Reference to Truman firing MacArthur.) The downside of another term for Trump is that he would be a lame duck from the very outset. That could hamper him in a significant way.

DeSantis has appeared to me to be more than simply competent. He has a plan, he acts on it to ensure it works, and he doesn't take too much shite from anyone. He's not vindictive or spiteful, but he's not gonna let anyone run roughshod over him either. It remains too be seen whether he believes in holding the federal government within its constitutional confines. That's something that NO president has done for a damned long time.

I could go for either one of them.

There is no way in hell I'd vote for anything the Dems offered as a candidate. The entirety of their party is festering and overrun with unabashed corruption. They don't even pretend to hide the fact any longer. I'd vote for a slug before I voted for anything offered by the DNC.

Desantis, then Trump. There’s really no one else except Rand, who would never get the nom.

While I’m sympathetic to Carl Benjamin’s view that Trump is the hero of the story and he must complete his arc, it’s got to be DeSantis. Regardless of who gets the nomination, I will vote for that person, but he’s just so competent and good at his own job. Trump steps on his own dick to an infuriating degree.

I just don’t know if that adds up though, as even tight on the heels of “pussy grab” and a plethora of other accusations of sexual harassment/impropriety (never substantiated) leading right up to 2016 election obviously didn’t sink him then. Those were much more significant reasons to repel suburban white women if they were susceptible to that. If that didn’t hurt him fatally then, I just don’t see what could’ve happened in the time since to cause them to be the difference maker.

Additionally, if he were that toxic with such a consequential segment of voters (suburban white women) then it would’ve hurt Desantis when Trump endorsed him way back in the original Florida Republican primary. But instead Trump’s endorsement by all accounts sent Desantis on his way to the win over the Republican opponent who was leading relatively comfortably at the time. Lastly on that subject, if Trump were that toxic with those white women at the present time, then again it wouldn’t benefit Desantis anyway and would ostensibly be avoided by his potential campaign.

So I know all my response is concentrated on the suburban white women thing, but that’s such a prominent criticism and concern about Trump that IMO the lack of legitimacy of that one for the reasons stated herein also demonstrate strong likelihood of a lack of legitimacy of the other commonly cited “flaws” over which some people are dismissing Trump and another possible Presidential run.
