Looking for ideas. We have a 6, 7, and 9 year old. We plan on going up the Statue of Liberty, Wicked, Starlight Diner, playing around Central Park, Color factory, KB Toys. Any other good suggestions. Honestly, I'd like to scratch the Color Factory but I doubt I win that battle. We'll be there first week in December (we know it'll be cold).

Just got back from 4 days with a 6 and 7 y/o. This was our second trip. We did the following (paid items):
Natural History Museum
Top of the Rock
Circle Line Water Cruise
Central Park Carriage Tour (wife insisted)
Yankee Stadium Tour
Bryant Park Ice Skating
I can tell you the kids favorite thing was the Natural History Musem, Top of the Rock, and Yankee Stadium. We spent probably 4 hours in the museum, and we all had a blast. The cruise was boring for them. We had more fun walking and playing at the playgrounds in Central Park than riding around in a carriage.
We thought long and hard about a show but couldn't justify the cost with a 6 y/o who would sleep through half of it. We walked by the 9/11 Museum and tried explaining to them what it was but they just aren't ready. I'm glad we didn't choose that.
We went into FAO Schwartz and let the kids dance on the piano. The LEGO store near Rockefeller Center was really cool.

Just give in on the Color Factory. The kids will love it.
The Lego Store is also in Rockefeller Center. Go there before or after skating. I'd check on the skating ahead of time. You may need a reservation. You could also walk around 5th Ave then and see the store windows. At least Saks is right by Rockefeller Center, so definitely go see that one. This might be a good day to go to Ellen's Stardust...I'm assuming you mean that when you say Starlight Diner.
Don't discount the cold. When my teen daughter and I went 15 years ago at Christmas, it was much colder than we thought it would be. Even though we had fun, she complained of the cold a lot. We didn't have the right clothes.
The will love the big dinosaur at the Museum of Natural History.
Like the other poster, I really recommend the Rockettes show. It's much better than you might think.

Thanks and yes, I meant Stardust (not Starlight) and FAO (not KB Toys). We've been to NY a bunch of times around Christmas and go snow skiing every year so we'll be well prepared for the cold. We'll definitely add the Rockettes and Top of the Rock. As far as the Museum, we recently did the NH Museum in Houston which sounds pretty similar. Is the one in NY significantly better?

Yes. Again, we spent ~4 hours there and didn't stop to watch/listen to any of the video presentations. Just the dinosaur wing alone is worth it. Seeing a massive Blue whale and walking inside that hall was enough for my kids to want to go back.

We are going the 7-11th with a 7, 9, and 13 yr old. Check out Santaland in Macys herald square. We are doing a Harbor Lights Cruise instead of Broadway as I have all boys and they didn’t want to see a show. Walking the Brooklyn bridge. May do a Yankee Stadium tour.

The dinosaur hall is probably the highlight of the American Museum of Natural History. I actually found a lot of the museum to be pretty boring. A LOT of stuff on other cultures. Also, this is where “Night at the Museum” is based on.
Houston Museum of natural history is pretty awesome though.

Can’t get a reso. I’d hate to wait for hours in the cold trying to get in. Has anyone waited in the recent past and didn’t wait long? Any suggestions on best time to go?

You could try an "off-time," like 2-4 in the afternoon, but honestly its always busy. Download the Resy app and just keep checking as things usually open up the closer you get. Even with a reservation you will spend some time in line outside.

This is pretty much what I've heard as well. I have heard that other than the big dinosaur, the Houston Museum is just as good.

If you're over near the Hudson, consider spending a couple of hours at Little Island. It's really a neat place and your kids will enjoy it. They can also walk some of The High Line. And the USS Intrepid will also be fun.

I’m going next week with my kid. My wife lived there for a number of years, so she is a good tour guide. We plan to do Lego store, American Girl store, One Vanderbilt, Serendipity, Rockettes, lion King, take the ferry by Statue of Liberty, and try to fit in a few things for the adults as well…nice restaurants booked for each night. I’m sure my wife will spend a small fortune shopping.
I’m sure I’m forgetting some things.

Wicked will be great but Aladdin for the ages of kids you’re bringing is a great show. Didn’t think I would be happy with it over wicked but it was really good.
Natural History Museum over by Central Park.
Enjoy the food and New York
We just went in June. Had a blast
Oh intrepid was awesome but my kids are a little older. It was the first Carrier my step dad flew on as a fighter pilot and he just passed in January so it held a lot of meaning in that respect too.
