Well, for one, the world/FIFA hate the idea of the US being good. We're never going to get even refereeing in big tournaments.

the cold hard truth is that the USA isnt good enough. We are getting better through investing in youth development, but we arent there yet.

Virtue signaling is getting expensive.
But one way to minimize how much you give away is exiting the WC early so you don't earn very much.
