Listened to CounterAttack on SXMFC and it sounded like the post-loss fallout was in full swing.

It was like a heavy weight fighter letting a middle weight produce a lot of swings, then counterpunching with three knockout blows.

In the insane in-game thread some were boasting and trashing about how bad our players were technically. Couldn’t be be further from the truth…the US has more players playing top level European soccer on its roster than it EVER has. It’s not our players.
Yesterday a superior coach came in and took away what had been our best asset through the group stage, our midfield, by man marking and setting the defense back. Gregg, didn’t have an answer.
Our depth is also a problem, but that’s a story for another day.

Gregg’s biggest failure was not rotating the midfield more during the group stage so they would be fresh for this game. It’s not Gregg’s job to mark the back post or the runs into the box, that’s on Adams/Dest/Robinson.

Not sure if you noticed but we didnt really have opportunities to rest our midfield in the group stage if we wanted to get out of it. Unless you wanted to just concede the England game.

Agree to an extent.
He couldn’t rotate unless you just hand the game to England. Since he couldn’t rotate and sub, again due to depth, general fatigue and simple things like not checking over your shoulder for a runner took its toll.
When your subs are Shaq Moore, Yedlin and Acosta… you’re gonna have issues.

I would have been ok resting McKennie to start Aaronson for that game.

I did not watch game. At work with text updates. But the limited highlights I saw looked like some errors due to exhaustion. Again I did not watch and saw les than 5 minutes of highlights

When I read that yesterday, I wanted to come here and post it just to get it out of my head. Its extremely concerning and you have to think Greg really doesn't understand the game.
Also several quotes from players about this world cup showing the US could play at this level as if we haven't made the knockout stages as often than not since 1994. Do they have no concept of the history? Sounds like they were playing for Canada.

Nothing really wrong with them taking some confidence from getting to knockout after not making 2018, but US soccer shouldn’t treat this as some sort of huge success because we had a lot of possession but got blown out in the round of 16.

Was driving me nuts after the Iran “game of the century”. ‘02 is never mentioned? One intentionally missed handball from a semifinal with the host nation.

Watch the 09 confed cup. We have all our guys in form and healthy and we play some great soccer against Spain Brazil and Italy. Then onyewu blows his knee out, Davies gets in a horrific car accident, boom, 12 months later we look average at best.

Gtfo with not rested and tired. These guys are used to playing twice a week, they got 4 days rest. If you can’t do that for 5-6 weeks in a row you simply aren’t cut out to be a tier one league player. We are talking 2 weeks of that, get out of here with being tired due to no subs.
Greg was right IMO, the Dutch allowed us to dominate early because they knew we couldn’t finish. Their strategy worked. I thought we looked damn good the first 25 mins, if Pulisic scores early the game is different. Dutch are forced to run more and not sit back.
The real difference is this US team has no one that can effectively score outside of the 6 yard box from crosses outside of Pulisic. We don’t have a 18 yard and beyond threat, and frankly our wingers crosses aren’t that great either.

Do we have no one that can do it, or is it that they are coached not to even try it? We take way too many extra touches when we get close to goal. It's infuriating, and I believe it comes down to Gregg's philosophies.

Nothing surprises me anymore.
An organization like this playing it safe by keeping someone like Gregg is exactly what I’d expect these days.
