Thailand trip cost?

I have been contemplating a trip to Thailand for my family of 4. For anyone who has done a trip like this, what would I be looking at cost wise. I know it is a generalized question.

That question is so open ended it's hard to answer without some parameters.
Business class vs. Economy

Phuket $1300 per for airfare
Chiang Mai similar.
I prefer LAX to Bangkok. And then on to destination.
Skip Bangkok at all costs.
Sometimes you can find decent pricing NYC to BKk also.
$100 -150 a night for a 4 or 5 star resort
$100 - 150 a day for meals. I do it on about $20 for one.
Transfers are dirt cheap
There are amazing deals at the resorts right now.
TripAdvisor is a great resource.

Are you talking for a family or per person? $100/ day seems high?
Also, I'm assuming when people say $150/ night for 4 star they mean equivalent? That in the bigger cities you can spend much more?

Disagree here if you like interesting cities, should definitely spend a night or 2 here. Tons to do an see.
I landed in Bangkok and spent 2 nights there. Tons of great food, temples, and sites to see. Took an overnight first class sleeper train up to Chang Mai and spent a few nights there and would definitely recommend, their Sunday night market is awesome. Can go to an Elephant sanctuary which the kids will love. Then caught a plane down to the islands and did a couple of the popular places and ended in a great resort on Railay Beach in Krabi. Great trip I think we were there for 16 days.

I know it was open ended because I have no idea where to start. I would not be looking to stay at 5* resorts. Just a fun family trip without breaking the budget.

I stayed at a 5 star resort in Rawai a few months ago. It slept 2 and cost me $70 per night and I got it on AGODA which has great Thailand prices. That’s per room. There are beach deals everywhere.
Agree BKk has tons of great things to do no doubt. It’s a great city except the red light district around Sukumvit which is so crowded and not for families. But families usually go to one of the destinations I mentioned . That’s all I meant. Phuket or Chiang Mai to the north.
Also I consistently find LAX airfares to BKk for under $900. I flew a few months ago Air Emirates from NYC via Dubai for under $900. That included a seat upgrade with nobody in front of me so I could stand .
Remember a bottle of water in Thailand costa a dime and the dollar is strong against the baht right now too. I can do it crazy cheap. I highly recommend AGODA for Thai travel deals.

I would fly east through Qatar if possible .... best airline in the world IMO and not a bad trip (Philly or ATL to Doha in 13-14, then an easy 6 to BKK). BKK is not for everyone, but there is a lot to see and do (and eat/drink). I was there in 2021 for 5 months for work when tourism was shut down. Food and drink can be incredibly affordable .... some of the best plates of food in my life for sub $2. There are fancy restaurants and lounges of course. AGODA is a good source for resort bookings and there will be no shortage of affordable options across the country. I also worked in Chiang Mai for a few months and love it there.
Vietnam is my favorite overall in SE Asia, but Thailand is friendly, inexpensive and easy to navigate.
and don't sleep on 7-11 snacks and Thai Rum (sangsom) and Thai Brandy (regency). Tasty and under $6 US

Another thing, are you required to be vaccinated to go?
Posted on 1/11/23 at 2:52 pm to Cool Hand Luke
my guess is yes ... at least you had to last time i was there for work. And i also had to quarantine for 14 days, which thankfully is no longer the case.
EDIT: the government just reinstituted a 2 jab vax rule to enter the country in anticipation of Chinese tourism increasing.

They actually rescinded that requirement on Monday saying it was an inconvenience to check Covid shot certificates.
Bangkok is awesome. A lot to see and eat. Koh Samui is a cool island
You can see/do/eat a lot of things for minimal money.

Flying from NYC to BKK is almost always a longer proposition than flying from LAX. China Eastern has a good flight with a quick layover in Beijing. And while QATAR or EMIRATES are superior airlines, I fly coach so what’s the difference, really? In my experience there is generally a 4 hour difference in best flight time LAX being around 20 and NYC being around 24. I’m still seeing flights under $900 because I have an alert set on that route.
The Rijiit Hotel (sp) Rawai where I have stayed has great family bungalows with private pools and an excellent breakfast buffet and they always have great deals. But it’s by no means the best, just one of many that are great.
Thailand is one of the most panicky of the COVID mania countries. Considering their economy is more reliant on tourism than almost any, it’s a damn shame how they screwed over their citizens. As of July masks were still worn almost everywhere.

All good info. We are not getting vaccinated, if it is a requirement then we will go somewhere else.

Consider Costa Rica. Closer , rustic, quick, etc. the thread right now flying into Liberia and staying in playa flamingo would be a great choice. What you pay more for in hotels you’ll save on airfare and time.
That said, Thailand is so great .

Are these true 5 star places worldwide or just by a Thai standard? I'm clueless I'm just curious? I mean 5 star by like London hotel standards or a lower standard? I only say that because I assume there are much nicer hotels that are more than $70/ night? I would assume someone like a celebrity isn't staying at $70/ night or yes?

Thai standards. But nice as frick. The Vijitt is this great stand alone bungalows built on stilts with incredible views and hot tubs and amazing outdoor showers. I got it for $70 a night. Definitely a $500 a night kind of property most everywhere else. Also remember Thailand is great to go to in low season. AGODA always has the best prices- just find a few properties you like and check back in for a couple of weeks .

If you happen to make it to Krabi, I highly recommend the Rayavadee on Railay Beach.

Waiter at the Thai restaurant we go to was telling us about Phi Phi Islands. Looks pretty nice also.

If you want to knock it out of the park look at the Banyan Tree properties. We stayed at Banyan Tree Samui and it was incredible.
