The CJ McCollum diary

This is our leader, and honestly for CJ’s sake and health, it’s probably a good thing we missed the playoffs. He needs the time off more than anyone else.

My thumb is bad enough where I need surgery and I’ve needed surgery for a while. And I don’t like to talk about injuries because then people say, ‘Oh, he is making excuses.’ But the reality is I decided to continue to play, so I can live with the performance of my play when I decided to play injured. I can live with that. And it’s important as an athlete that you make decisions that you feel are best for you and your family. And for me and my family, it was more so about understanding this is my 10th year in league.
We got a good team, we got a chance to make a run. And injuries that I have won’t have a long-term impact on my future, according to the doctor. So, I can play through some pain. I can play through some discomfort and see what happens. And I’m comfortable with people seeing me at my best. I’m comfortable with people seeing me at my worst. I don’t have insecurity issues at all and I know who I am as a player, I know what I’m capable of. And for me, it was just more so about fighting through it and trying to do the best I can for the community that deserves winning, for the organization that deserves winning. And for my teammates, they’ve been through a lot, they’ve seen a lot and we were very injured. The last thing I wanted to do was just shut it down and watch and, in my eyes, waste a year of basketball, which although I wasn’t 100%, I still competed and gave us a chance.

He’s a leader. Yeah he sucked the last 2 games but he is very low on our list of issues

As disappointing as the second half of the season was, this is what the 3rd winning season since the Pelicans became the Pelicans?

Lol at everyone who said I was wrong everytime I pointed this out.

Meh. An injured thumb doesn’t cause you to commit idiotic fouls and make dumb reads with the basketball
His play wasn’t just disappointing because of his shooting. It was disappointing bc he made multiple rookie mistakes a game.

I give him credit for toughing it out.

I do to an extent. But he did a lot wrong this year. Main thing being he has too many things on his plate
He’s getting paid $35Mil a year to play basketball for the Pelicans, but his mind and attention is usually elsewhere.
I would trade him this offseason unless he agrees to drop NBAPA Pres duties. Andscape diaries, his podcast, and his espn appearances
If he can’t be satisfied being a basketball player, a father, and doing some shitty arse wine label on the side
I don’t want him. Because there isn’t enough time in the day for much more than those 3 things. It’s hard enough to win in this league. It’s especially difficult if your highest paid player has his mind on 10 different things during any given game.

Guess the injury didn't impact his shot because he continued his field goal attempts, isolations and didn't adjust his assist game.
Maybe it's me but CJ seems selfish.

A big chunk of his injury timeline coincided with our best offensive player and biggest volume player being out

Literally averaged the most assists of his 10 year career, but sure. Same APG as BI this year. Do you consider BI a selfish player?

CJ literally admitted that he was answering NBA PA Pres emails during halftime of games. (Source-JJ Redick Pod) It was an extremely busy year for that role due to the cba negotiations.
