Griff said last night they still need to add rim protection

Flat out mentioned one of their goals this offseason and that they have not achieved it yet, and would still look to do so.
So...
How do we do it?

Take advantage of the Wizards while they are in asset collection mode and go get Gafford.

trade Billy for Christian Koloko.
trade Kira for Nick Richards.

MM threw out a JV for Capela trade. Tax reasons are the main motivator, but teams seem to be running from the tax pretty hard right now. Too bad the Pels dumped all of their 2nds with Graham.

I think the best case scenario for the rest of the summer is a deal that involves JV for Capela. You gotta hope Atlanta wants to get off some money/create a starting spot for Okongwu. Something like:
Spurs: Valanciunas
Hawks: Zach Collins, Naji (get under tax)
Pels: Capela

On paper I like it. How good is Capela's pick and roll d?

We have been Offensive deficient at times and Capela being a complete zero in that category and a terrible FT shooter would be a concern for me. Good rim protector though

Any team with BI, CJ, Zion and Trey shouldn't be offensive deficient. Even 3 of 4 of those guys should be enough with at least one more competent shooter to spread things out...Hawkins. Even just having Jose back last year would have gotten us into the playin imo.

I think it’s an inevitability that we trade for rim protection. Unfortunately we also need shooting from our bigs. My guess is we try again for Turner but don’t meet the asking price. Jarrett Allen was mentioned in another thread. The Cavs have clearly made him available, he shouldn’t cost nearly as much, and he feels like the exact kind of player Griff has targeted in the past. Would make getting another shooter to add with Hawkins a priority and internal improvement from guys like Herb, Dyson, and Jose a necessity

Take that same trade, add Temple in it and a 1st to Atlanta and take back Bey also.
Would add more shooting. I would hate to lose Val but that would be a good deal.

You’re seriously unstable. Seek help.

I feel like I’ve spent years trying to solve this formula at this point. I love Gafford, but as a backup and his salary becomes difficult to fit into our salary structure long term.
I just don’t think Indy wants to trade Turner. And he even scares me with his lack of rebounding. And let’s be honest, his shooting is pretty overrated.
Capela is undersized and everything he does is based on athleticism. And he’s shown major signs of slowing down.
Jarrett Allen is a good player for sure, but he doesn’t shoot and reports were that Cleveland turned down all offers. If we could make it happen, you would have to try.
Maybe a Robert Williams or Mitchell Robinson could be had? But seems unlikely. I also like Hartenstein but don’t see what would make sense for Knicks. Can’t afford Ayton for sure.
Here’s to hoping they pull a rabbit out of their hat.

You could probably apply the same logic and costs to get Allen too. Who would people rather if the cost is relatively the same?
Pro/Cons:
-They’ve both missed games the last few seasons.
-Capela at his best is probably better than Allen but had a dip in production on both ends last year.
-Capela is going to be 30 this year, Allen is going to be only 25.
-Allen will most likely cost slightly more to acquire
-Capela is a better rebounder but Allen is a much better FT shooter, hitting 70, 73% the last two years.
-Capela is owed $20m this year and $22m next. Allen is owed $20m for the next three years.
-Neither can shoot from deep, but Allen has a slight chance to develop that top of the key, sundial 3 that JV pulled out every now and then. Capela will never learn to shoot.
Neither solve our spacing issues and both of their recent injury histories worry me. The cap implications will be harder with Allen, but if we can get him for a combo of JV, Naji, Kira and a highly protected 1st, I’d probably go with him.

Need a true pg too…
Idk how we can keep going without one.

I think we should inquire about Isaiah Jackson from Indiana. They just drafted Jarace Walker and may be willing to move him.

That's not how the NBA works anymore. Which of the top 8 teams in the playoffs had a true PG? The Knicks with Brunson? Everyone else was running their offense through wings or bigs.
