Toilet purchase tips

Looking at replacing two toilets in a new house purchase. Any tips for brands that are more reliable, features to look for or steer clear of, etc? Not looking for a $500 toilet. Looking from $175-$230 range. Never bought a toilet before always just used what’s available

My toilets are five+ decades-old American Standards, when I sell my house I might take one with me and replace with some POS low-water use thing.

When we redid our bathroom, the contractor brought the wrong toilet the first time.
I didn't realize there are different toilets depending on how far the drain is from the wall.
The only tip I have is to make sure to measure that and get the right one.

Pay attn to the GPF (gallons per flush). The new ones you have to flush twice, it seems.

Oval shaped handicap height toilets are the only toilets I buy. Then put a soft close wooden white seat and you’ll never go back

I'm now 70 and have the taller, elongated toilet upstairs in the main living area and a typical 25 yr. old regular toilet down in the man cave on the 1st floor. Huge difference in how they feel when doodie calls. The one downstairs makes me feel like I'm taking a crap in an old 5 gallon bucket the way it sits so low.
I will eventually get a new toilet to put in the man cave.

Lowe's stocks an American Standard 1.6GPF elongated, ADA height toilet in most of their stores. Everything else in HD and Lowes is 1.28GPF. I put one in the "guest" bathroom. My boys would clog the previous toilet about once a month. I've had it in there for 2 years and it has never clogged.

Kohler, Jacuzzi, Delta or American Standard (Name brands) are three good ones. Get the elongated and taller toilets. The hose for the water, metal ends and braided metal hose.

Last one I installed was a Delta that was like $100. Can't tell a difference vs Am Std or Kohler toilets I've done in past. Measure your wall to hole distance and make sure it will fit.

I bought the cheapest one piece Lowes offers and love them. The one piece is an easier install if you are the labor here

Someone said get the tall one. The tall toilets are about 17" tall. That is fine, if you are 6+ feet tall. But for shorter people [I am 5' 7"] and my feet barely touch the floor when using a 17" tall toilet.
The shorter toilets are about 15" tall. The advantage of the tall toilets is it is a little easier getting up and down.
