Would the military draft work today?

If America found itself in some kind of war where it felt it needed bodies and fired up the draft, would anyone even go? Between all the fats and the mentally off and people who vehemently oppose one party or the other, I can't see a situation in which a draft actually works.
Before you say it, I am fully aware we likely won't ever need it again because wars are fought with long range missiles, drones, and probably robots soon.

Probably not. Mandatory 2 year military service might be a good idea.

If it is a war like Vietnam for some other waste of time, I would do anything I could to keep my children or grandchildren out of draft. I will not put their life on the line for the politicians of the day.

If it is a war like Vietnam, most of the posters on this board would do anything to keep themselves or their kids/grandkids out of the draft.

I support some degree of mandatory national service. Doesn’t have to be military per se. There are lots of civil service, reserve, administrative, etc. roles that could be used as well.

Nobody is gonna risk death just to come back to rampant wokeness and unaffordable living costs. If WW3 kicks off and they try a draft, there would be an immediate uprising.

It would only work if there was an evil person the likes of Hitler trying to concur and "Cleanse" the world but even then who would trust the news media?
Thats the worst part of the whole Covid Vaccine debacle. Even when it comes to life and death, the American people can't trust anything their government or News media tells them. Even if there was a Hitler like figure trying to take over the world, one party would demand we draft soldiers and fight while the other would prop up the new Hitler as the face of their party.
Seriously frick the politics in this country. No one in DC is trying to make life better for the people they supposedly serve. We need a middle ground party that doesn't bow down to corporations and can get in office and figure out how to get the corporations out of politics all together.

Fighting age males aren't going to enjoy being drafted to sit through diversity and sensitivity training just to be shot in a foreign land for a rainbow flag.
