That’s why juniors rarely return for the Sr. season.

They low balled Dugas. That’s insulting.

The more I learn about the mlb draft process, the less I understand

ETA in terms of leverage I get it, but the combination of it all in the process is head scratching

Right but he was making more probably in NIL this past coming season. Going to be interesting moving forward what players decide to do. I mean if he would have come out last year he probably would not have been drafted.

This was his 5th year. Used his COVID year.

They gotta do something about that. Like if you are offered below slot value and your eligibility is all used up, you get to become a free agent before signing stuff like this. Players shouldn't be punished for staying an extra year in school to finish a degree

A healthy Gavin Dugas is a damn good player. Worth more than 20K signing bonus. Hopefully, he gains traction in the minors and makes the Show.

I bet he wouldn’t trade this year for anything

Fair point. Undrafted players can sign for up to $125K. But MLB really doesn’t care.

When I read that, I thought you were referring to Gavin's signing bonus, which is still a bit low.

He didn't get drafted. You don't "declare" for the MLB draft. And he announced his return after the draft last year. If he would have been drafted in the top 10 round last year like he was this year, he would have left. His NIL deal most likely isn't touching top 10 round money.

And that’s why college seniors are drafted in rounds 6-10. Dugas wouldn’t have been a 6th round pick if they were required to pay his slot value

I thought there was a CBA with MLB where a draftee had to sign for at least a certain percentage of the slot value. Guess not.

Only if they’re invited to and participate in the pre-draft combine. Very very few college seniors are invited
