Will literally do any other exercise. Even fricking burpees. I'll do deadlifts, lunges all day and maybe even Bulgarian split squats if the mood strikes me. But absolutely hate doing traditional squats and working out the abs for some reason. Anybody else in the same boat?

No. I don’t workout like everyone else, and therefore look like everyone else

There no crunches in Squatober. That’s a good thing.

If you’re doing split squats and lunges, frick regular squats if you don’t like them. And as far as training abs, what’s the need? If you’re doing compound lifts and other shite there’s no need. I haven’t trained abs exclusively in years. My six pack is just fine.

Training should be fun. If you’re doing alternative exercises that target the same muscles then frick the ones you don’t like.

You’re obviously mentally weak!

they don’t all target the same muscle groups. That isn’t enough

I guarantee the average gym goer won’t tell the difference. Sure if he’s competing in a bodybuilding competition then it’s not the same. Too many people complicate shite. Splits, lunges, unweighted single leg squats, air squats, etc. You don’t need to load up 400lbs in a rack to destroy your legs and get a great workout.

That’s not my choice. I like to do them all.

I'm about 2 months into the gym routine. So glad I've finally moved beyond hitting each muscle group the first time. Every time we'd hit a new muscle group, I'd be uncomfortably sore.

We rotate weights and reps weekly. One week will be 5 reps, next week 12 reps, next week 16 reps then 20 reps. 4 sets of squats at 20 reps had me walking like an old man for a bit. But now when I do them, I'm a good sore and it goes away in a couple of days. But squats are what I dread doing the most.

I have a nagging back injury, so there are only a few abdominal workouts I can do that don't aggravate my back. I enjoy the core workouts I can do, but if I try something new, I also dislike those.

For what reason? Are you bad at squats? Disappointed with how little you can lift? Get too sore or fatigued after them?

high bar squats are almost a complete quad movement at parallel.

those exercises are plenty

or just do split squats and reverse lunges if you want more hamstring/glute exercises or do one of those and throw in RDL

low bar is more hips and glutes though.

but in the end 90% of gym goers arent doing heavy arse squats, much less lunges and RFESS. so just doing those is an improvement.

im more of a meat head like prox is but i understand most arent. I use to be very critical of Kinobody programming for this reason then realized most people could give two shits about legs...so let them do something less taxing and that they will actually consistently do.

now me...i enjoy the pain

I’m with you. I enjoy a good burn. I’ve got weird strength. For instance, my 1 rep back squat is 365 but I can rep out 335 for 8 to 10 reps.

That's the key. You don't want to be dreading going to the gym. If you can look forward to it you will keep it up. That being said, throwing some heavy weight on your shoulder and pounding out some reps feels pretty damn good.

Sure does. Squeezing out some tough reps gives me a pretty good high.

I'm just a few weeks away from turning 48 and lifting keeps me feeling pretty good.

I always hit squats twice a week, but about 6 weeks ago I started adding some ab work at the end if my workouts. It's not too bad.

I hate working biceps.

I Love doing squats. I had a few months with back issues and thought I would never be able to do them again. Now that I'm over that and able to squat I realize how fricking great they are.

IMO the greatest lift there is.

I've quit doing a lot of arm workouts recently. Used to do a whole arm day...now I just add skullcrushers to chest day and hammer curls to back day. Allowed me to get down to lifting 4 days a week, which is more sustainable for me.

then dont do them. arent necessary if you are covering your bases as others have eluded to.

have you tried hack squats? i find those to be a good alternative when im not feeling like bar squats.

Abs i only target train once a week and really just a 3-4 sets of weighted inverted sit ups. more than enough to achieve definition. i know its cliché, but its true, abs are made in the kitchen.

That is very wild! You would think you would be well over 400.

Yeah, all my lifts are like that. Top end isn’t fabulous but I can move moderately heavy weight for reps.

Think of squats like vegetables

You gotta eat your vegetables first before you eat the good stuff like bench. There’s no point in having a “leg day” just throw squats in to another workout 2-3 times a week

Ab exercises are fake. If you don’t have a 6 pack it’s because you’re too fat. If it tastes good spit it out

ETA: squats are a psyop created by the fitness industry to sell you protein and make sure you don’t do anything hard like have portion control

I’m sure a 600 pound person could squat a lot. Keep up the good work king, you gained 5 lbs on the scale and your squat max went up 1 pound.

The only reason I squat is so I know that if there’s a chick at a concert I can put her on my shoulders. Therefore I really only need to squat 115 pounds max but I do more than that just to be safe

You haven’t lived until you’ve thrown 220 on your shoulders at a hot outdoor concert and tried to breathe with those thick thighs squeezing off your fresh air supply.
