It depends on how his self creation develops. Right now he's been assisted on 100% of his 3s and 70% of his 2s. Which is fine because he's a rookie and he's playing a role but if he is going to become a star he needs to be able to create for himself and for others.

Peak Malik Beasley for 50ish games:
20 PPG, 5 RPG, 2 APG, shooting 45/40/80

His biggest issue, he can't create for himself or others. That is not going to suddenly change.

He’s also our best rebounder outside of Val

I gotta disagree on this. Hawkins is a better rebounder and defender. I also think hes a higher IQ player and makes the right passes when needed. Hes not really creating because thats not really his job with Zion, BI and CJ. I think hes likely a Ray Allen at his peak as well.

I see old ray Allen with some Rip Hamilton mixed in. He's an offensive hub but he's doing it offball. His ability to create chaos is what creates openings for his teammates. His handles are fine and he shoots off the dribble pretty good albeit it's mostly one or two dribble in. But it's there.

He definitely should not be compared to on ball creators when measuring his impact and potential.

Peak Klay Thompson typically has over 90% of his 3s assisted. As long as he keeps working on his off ball movement, I don’t see why Hawkins couldn’t put up similar numbers to Klay.

One thing I liked from him last night was he was comfortable pump faking and driving when defenders closed hard on him at the three.

If he can put on some muscle and still have that same pure quick release 3 he can be really really good. Right now I think he’s a bit too small to be anything but a shooting specialist but we’ll see

He is playing serviceable defense which is a welcome and surprising plus, but if he wants to be a net positive on that side of the ball he just has to put on some muscle IMO

I think Hawkins can create, though. Just because he doesn't need to on this team as it is constructed doesn't mean he won't eventually. He's doing exactly what this team needs. Shoot 3's and play hard everywhere. Every time I watch a Pels game he looks like he's on a different effort level of constant movement.

I mean he got himself into the teeth of the defense a few times last night. He ended up shooting everytime but that’s because he had space. I imagine if he got closed out on those middy’s something could have happened with a cut or maybe a kick out.

I think it’s quite premature to say he has no creation ability at all

Wait, you went from absolutely slamming Hawkins as hard as anyone on this board to 7 games in and he can be one of the 3 best 3 point shooter of all-time?

Yeah I thought he was a bad pick at the time and ate my crow- if you like following my posts- read that as well. Hes really impressed me in regards to the intangibles which I never thought he had. I think if everything goes right he could be - because Allen brought more than 3 pt shooting.

I don’t understand even when people admit their wrong and see potential in a player, you get criticized for it. I was so glad I was wrong but its also why Im posting on here and not scouting for a NBA team. But go ahead talk shite about that too.
