Farmers across the state are worried about this year’s crawfish crop, wondering if the “mudbugs” will emerge from their underground burrows, which can run three feet or more deep. They’re concerned whether the tiny, lobster-like crustaceans, which usually grow alongside the coastal rice crops, survived the monthslong hot and dry conditions that affected the area.

Imagine if there was a year with no crawfish

A few places around Lafayette are already selling boiled crawfish, I saw one place was 5lb for $55. No thanks.

i wish they’d just be honest and say we are going to raise the price because you will pay.

Would hate for this to happen because people make their livelihoods doing this, but it would be fascinating to see the absolute melt if this were to ever end up taking place

It's easy if you try.
No bugs below us.
Above us, only sky.

I read this in the comments

Houma and boiled is $11.75, $10.99 and $9.75 and the three places I asked.

One local restaurant has them 37.99 for 3lbs and I'm almost tempted to buy some because I'm pregnant craving them. But i know they'll be small/ medium. Southeast Texas/southwest Louisiana

actually it’s that high because it’s costing them more. The drought caused them to have to use more water to fill the pounds and they are producing less crawfish. They have to recoup what they are spending and somehow make a profit.

The amount of bitching we would hear would rival if not eclipse the amount of saints fans there are when they are good.

Why don't the prices go up every year then dipshit?
Why was the price so low last year when every thing else in the world went up?

Impossible to get any though. The past two fridays i've driven past there, there are numerous ebt card holders lined up starting around 3pm.

"You've got to expand your perspective, man. Live beyond crayfish... I mean, there's all sorts of other shite swimming around in the ditch too, other than crayfish. Yoko's family eats it all, you know."

You can get live crawfish now. I remember after the recent Nati when I was driving back from Nola, I stopped in BR at that vietnamese cajun spot on Highland right north of campus, North of the Arby's had them on sale for $3.75 a pound for a sack. I just won nearly 4 grand on the nati taking alternative LSU -11 line when it was -6 and bought a sack.

Elon Musk needs to stop investing his time in Tesla, X, Going to Mars and find an optimal way to farm crawfish. Time to show these hillbilly farmers how it’s done.

Live crawfish will eventually get high enough to interest Chinese and other foreigners in flying them in live (if it's legal).
