I’ve seen him mentioned in a few threads here over the years. I like all types of music but especially enjoy singer/songwriter type stuff, Guy Clark, REK, John Prine etc. I gotta say that Chris Knight is one of the most underrated songwriters there is in my opinion. Does anyone else agree with that?

Yea, especially those first 2 or 3 albums, they are full of great songs. "Framed" off his first album is maybe the first song I learned to play and sing on guitar. I admit I don't listen to him much anymore but when I hear even his new stuff I like it. I did learn to play "Down the River " recently and he was scheduled to play with Charlie Robison this Saturday just down the street from me but sadly, that show was canceled.

I like what he does, but it seems that he only writes 1 type of song. I haven't heard all of his stuff though, maybe there are some things I've missed.

Man that’s a bummer for sure, North Dakota, Hard Edges, Love and A .45 , are all great songs. I heard him do a live set on the radio awhile back and he sounded terrible, I think he’s lived a pretty hard life. It was just weird to me how many people I know who know a good deal about music had never heard of him before.

And your point is.......

Years ago, early 2000s, I heard him being interviewed on the local outlaw country station. I didn't hear the intro of who it was and this station was known for doing whacky stuff. I couldn't understand a word Chris was saying and thought they were interviewing the stations janitor. i went saw him play that night and he got pissed at his band and kicked them off stage and did the next hour solo.

He’s playing at the Red Dragon in BR in a week. Great songwriter but he definitely doesn’t have a wide range of song types.

I get what your saying but I do think he has a little more variety than just one type.

Yeah I’ve seen him quite a few times and you never know what type show you might get, lol, kinda like Hank jr shows back in the day, he might be drunk as hell and in a bad mood or he might sound just fine. He cussed at my buddy’s brother one night cause he was talking too loud.

I don't think It Ain't Easy Being Me and Down the River are much alike at all.

Really? I thought Charlie lost his voice and hung it up a few years before he died...

I saw him there in 08 or 09. He was great. Saw him again at the Cains Ballroom in Tulsa a couple of years after that. Both shows were great but the Red Dragon was all acoustic and suited his style better IMO.

They had a handful of dates booked around Texas.
