Sounds like he is a good coach and would be a fine addition to the staff, but if he leaves after one year as DC, what will you think of the hire?

It will make the LSU job that much more attractive, and we will have a great season. Ill take it.

If he gets a HC job, that means the defense performed very well. Which is good. It also means other possible DCs will see LSU as a place that can get you a HC job.

Everybody wins, but most importantly, LSU wins.

interesting point of view. it's hard to say because it seems like after one year, the defense would really just start understanding the system fully and be in-tune with the coach. we saw this with pelini. i would hope that he would stay at least 2 years. however, it doesn't really matter because either way its a significant step up from what we had

I say you hire the best. Then worry about it when they decide to move on. Then you hire the best again.

Yep.

He would probably have had to have been successful in turning the D around (otherwise, other programs may take a wait and see approach).

It would not be IDEAL. But, other good DCs would certainly see the job as a good resume' builder and be interested.

I would hope that he would be up-font about his desire to bolt if given a good opportunity AND for Miles to then keep a list of prospective replacements updated so as to be able to make a smart move.

I'd love for him (whomever is chosen) be wildly successful and here for the long term. But, I'd have no issue if a man can progress in his chosen profession.

I can't say it any better than this.

Again, I like guys who have aspirations. If they don't, they will only do well enough to not get fired. If they want to be a head coach, they will try to excell to show their worth and take that next step. If no one wants to hire our coordinators, that means they aren't doing that good of a job.

It may be attractive to Coach O. If he comes with Walker and Walker leaves after one year, it's a good possibility Coach O would be promoted (provided of course the D performs much better than this year).

Let's think about it.

If he goes to LSU and creates a monster, he'll be on everyones list. LSU will be back on top again.
LSU will have nailed down more recruits.

And then....he'll be very desired by many, many teams.

So then... he'll wait, since he'll have the luxury of choosing a great to be a head coach
And make BIG $$$, like Pellini.

And then the path is laid for future super DCs.
And LSU reloads again.

Yep, I got no problem either.

I'd be happy if Walker does great things at LSU during his stay. And if he does, LSU will do great things on the field. And that will be good for us fans. I'd say, hire him if he'll come and then let the chips fall where they may.

Not a good hire, a Great hire. Was pelini a good hire leaving after his third year? Got a n.c. out of the deal.

If you get a coach that can improve your defense and other universities want him as a head coach, then how could this be bad?

Do you go after carmelo anthony or greg odom because they will go the n.b.a. early? the answer is yes. you played or won a n.c. with those guys.

If your d.c. keeps getting promoted to head coach, you will have the top talented defensive coaches standing in line to coach the defense at your university.

This logic begs the question, should Steve S. have hired stoops? Should urban myer hire charlie strong?

You want the best coaches on your staff. period. Deal with that issue if it presents itself. he may be here for 3-5 years, who know's. It's better to have that problem than not.

Stoops was the Florida DC for three seasons.

I want the best DC possible for LSU, and if that person is Walker, so be it, but it would suck to have to go through this process again next December.

If you hire top assistants, they will always want to move for HC'ing jobs. I say hire the man!

BigJ, what gigs could be open next year that Walker could potentially jump at?

Arizona?

if he gets a nice head coaching job then that just makes the job that much more appealing for the next DC

I would say that some people thought it could open up...

I would think that Mike Stoops gets canned if Arizona doesn't win at least 8 games next year...
