A review that is long as the actual episode? I guess they gotta monetize somehow

The whole “make your videos longer for more revenue” isn’t really a thing anymore. Alt shift X always does long form video on these things, because it’s usually tied to not just what happens in the show but how that connects or is different from the source material and the overall themes
I am not watching HODs, but would highly recommend alt shift x on his Dune or GOTs stuff. It’s incredibly deep and gives you a deeper understanding of what lies underneath the surface

I thought it was tied to ad views, and YouTube now likes to pause in the middle of the video every 7 minutes for 2 minutes on these longer videos.
Could be wrong tho. It just seems like the ads have become a lot more frequent on YouTube and sometimes if I'm playing music they'll throw a 50 minute ad in the middle between songs that I have to go in and skip.
I think they are hoping you aren't paying attention or fell asleep and let it play through

Yeah they changed a lot of that. Used to be 20 minutes was the sweet spot but now monetization is more about being more ad friendly and having consistent viewers. Most accounts make a majority of their money through patron and other subscription type support from their fanbases more than anything. Some if not most of the largest YouTubers these days are really just streamers who post their clips on YouTube after the fact

Ads are certainly a lot more prolific on the channels these days, but that’s a lot more tied to YouTube wanting to push people to pay for premium. Not all ads are created equally when it comes to payouts to creators

Businesses are smarter than this. They aren’t paying for a number on the screen that YouTube present as the viewership. That’s certainly a component, but not the only thing they are looking at when they are buying ad space with YouTube. They are buying specific ad time with medium to large accounts that have control over their specific demographics and they know the more effective use of that is through direct and indirect influencer marketing through the YouTubers themselves. Also when those ads are placed are a big factor. The YouTube inserted ads at the back half of a 45 minute video are the cheap stuff, the Clorox ad you get in the first 3 minutes is the big money stuff because they know they are getting the most locked in viewer as possible over the span of any given video
