I wonder if he shot it in low light conditions thinking it was a hog.
Y'all reckon somebody tipped LDWF off?
Everybody knows he's killing dinks now

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents cited a southwestern Louisiana man on June 17 for allegedly illegally taking a Louisiana black bear in Concordia Parish.
Agents cited Madison M. Watkins, 36, of Welsh, for taking a bear during a closed season and two counts of failing to validate his deer harvest.
Agents received information that Watkins harvested a black bear in Concordia Parish in December of 2023. During the investigation, agents made contact with Watkins’ on June 17 and he admitted to taking a black bear with a compound bow on the Bayou Cocodrie National Wildlife Refuge on Dec. 12, 2023. He also admitted to taking two antlered deer in Calcasieu Parish in October of 2023 and failing to validate the tags on both deer.
Agents seized two sets of four point deer antlers and the compound bow.
Taking a bear during a closed season brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Failing to validate deer tags carries up to a $350 fine.
Watkins may also face civil restitution totaling $10,000 for the replacement value of the illegally taken bear.
Agents participating in the case are Corporal Katie Matthias, Lt. David Sanford, Sgt. Stuart Guillory and Agent David Williams.

Hell, I got written up there because the resident agent saw a rifle on the back seat of my truck. I was traveling and mostly living out of the truck for a week(friend's camp was somewhat nearby) and totally forgot about even having it because I rarely rifle hunt. The detachable mag had rounds in it, so for refuge purposes, it was loaded. He said he understood what happened and believed my story and said he would sleep on it. He didn't turn it in.

Wonder if it also carries a loss of hunting/fishing license?

Closed? A season didn't exist then. It actually doesn't exist now. One would think the fine would be a tad higher.
Speaking of seasons.... Any ideas when they are going to announce the plans for the season and the lottery?

He couldn’t have written you up for loaded gun unless you had one in the chamber if the magazine was detached. The federal agents at Cocodrie are goobers.

Detachable, but not detached. He was nice about it. Nothing in chamber.

The game warden cited him, and I was there when it happened. Last season he had an article done up on him for killing a really nice deer at Black Bayou, but the gators got to the deer before he could. He mentioned he was hunting that deer for several seasons. I bet he was... hunting, baiting, filming, etc.

That federal judge is going to lay the smack down on that guy.

From what I gather, they found the bear and dug deep into who was hunting in that area. Got enough info to get warrants the rest is history. Likely searched house and found deer meat and no validated tags -

I know the kid.. Sent pic of him and bear to his girlfriend. Few months later they break up.. Girlfriend outs him to LDWF.
Same with pics of deer and tags not matching up..
