Showed this to my 3.5 year old boy, I think he genuinely teared up when Shadow came over the hill lmao his eyes were legit glistening
But I watched him through all the tense moments, sassy going over the waterfall and reuniting, the mountain lion, chance almost getting caught trying to get out from the fence. He was on the edge of his seat, and his smile in the emotional moments was just awesome to watch.
The score is so memorable too. If anyone hasn’t shown their young kid yet go ahead and do it. He’s watching it again tonight, he absolutely loves it
Sally field and Michael J knock it out of the park

This was our road trip movie in the early 90s so we’ve watched it eleventy billion times which means my dad has listened to it and never seen it just as many times

I'm a grown 37 year old and I can't watch the Shadow mud scene.

I remember seeing it in theaters, in the monroe mall of all places.

Showed this to my kids about 2 weeks ago. My 3 year old daughter was glued and the genuine smile on her face when the animals came home was so heartwarming to see. Crazy to see you had a similar experience

Was the sequel any good?

GAHHH this was brutal to watch as a kid, yet somehow it's even worse as an adult, haha!

I really enjoyed HB2: Lost in San Francisco. I thought the simple writing did a good job of introducing the new "characters" and kept the same emotional feeling viewers had of the main trio: Shadow, Chance, and Sassy. Like most 90's movies, there wasn't much wasted screen time IIRC. The plot stayed in a straight line and didn't deviate like most shows and movies do today.

Same age. When the music swells and he limps up the hill I cry. Every fricking time. Not like balling sobbing or anything, but I cry.

It’s amazing the movie was able to look so real when all the animals were played by puppets and people in costume
It’s sad that Hollywood gave up that level of practical effects for cgi
