Looking at getting new trolling motor for 21 ft Frontier. Spot lock is a must and I will also be using this bass fishing a good bit so will have to have a sonar on it or installed on the unit

Minn Kona Terrova saltwater has a 2D sonar in it supposedly

Is 24 volt good enough or do you think the 36 volt would be better?

Or any other brands you suggest? Garmin?

24 volt would be fine. Frontiers are very light boats and don't draft much, so there isn't much drag to overcome at all. 36v would of course be better, but I don't think it's necessary on the boat. If you've got the room for an extra battery and don't mind spending the extra money you probably won't regret getting a 36v. I'd get a 24v if it were my boat.

Terrova is the only answer. They are spectacular.

I do not know a lot about the salt models, but I do know that I would avoid the auto deploy/stow models. We had issues with one this summer and googling the problem revealed that lots of guys are having issues with them. We had to remove ours just to make it home.

I’d go with a 36V, bayboats sit high in the water and on windy days you will want the extra power.

I have a MK Ulterra (self deploy) and would not buy again. I’d prefer a manual deploy as I’ve had a couple weekends messed up with broken belts and prob on the deploy/stow.

Now MK has redesigned the units with the Quest Series and now has a more robust system and gone to brushless motor, this is what I’m buying when mine breaks again.

MK Terriova Quest

I believe the sonar and some other features only work with Hummingbird units. Don't have one but that is what I think I heard or read.

I haven't had an issue with auto depoy, but that is not the features I care about, the auto trim on these models is the bees knees. Raising it up in 12" of water and still being to motor out of a hole is amazing.

I did 35 miles offshore. Self deploy sucks

The new model Minn Kotas are both 24 and 36 volt in the same unit depending on how you want to power them. They are very pricey tho. I am in the same situation and about to upgrade my trolling motor.

Yep, my buddy’s did on our last trip. And I had to help my guide buddy disassemble his at the ramp one time when it had an erection lasting longer than 4 hours.

Terrova manual deploy 24v/80# thrust on my 20’ Hydrasport, which is a heavy beast with high sides. Plenty of motor, even offshore. Love it.

I guess you can run a transducer through the terrova?

Anyone have experience with the new Garmin trolling motors? They have spot lock as well

I guess you could get a clamp on either way. Theres probably a fresh water manual deploy with a built in ducer. That's what I'd get if I were you. As far as I know, the only real difference in the salt water and fresh water models is the paint job.

My friend, who sells them, had a fresh water self deploy with a transducer on his bay boat. It lived in salt water. Mine is a salt water model, and mine breaks more than his does.

I think I am hung up on them being called freshwater vs saltwater for some reason. I have a black mine kota and it’s been fine but I keep it sprayed off

One of our CENLA posters has one. I think he likes it well enough. I do not, but for a very specific reason not that many will care about. I find the wireless connection between the foot petal and the unit to be a tad sloppy. Probably not an issue at all in salt, but when your FFS transducer is on the TM, it's a bit distracting and not very precise.
