He already was cut to take a paycut. I'm guessing this is the end of the road (for now).

I just don't believe that Matt Ryan is a worse option than JRE.
Matt Ryan isn't even that good, yet if he's on the court his defender isnt' going to help off of him.
JRE is literally left open every possession, and our offense is almost forced to let him get shots off b/c it's always an open shot as his guy is always helping.

I would bet Willie doesn't view them as equivalent because of positions. Willie probably sees it as JRE > Missi and Karlo.

I'm guessing this means Hawk has played well enough to be ahead of Ryan on the depth char,t so Ryan isn't needed and every little bit helps when you're over the tax.

I understand that, but JRE isn’t a 5, and he’s barely even a 4. He’s not a reliable big, b/c he isn’t a big, and he has no offense.
I don’t understand how he is on any nba roster.

JRE is also four years younger, I don't think he's terrible for an 11-12th man on a roster.

All true. Now do the defensive end.

I don't understand the lack of respect in having Ryan on this team. He is definitely worth an 11-12 man roster spot. This is especially baffling with Tre to miss the start of the season. Who do they think gets his spot that is practicing with the team??

I agree. Matt might get a bunch of DNPs, but there will be games where he can be a difference maker with his shooting. Seems perfect for a 10-12 man on a roster.

Makes zero sense to cut a shooter like Matt when you want to play a 5 out offense….

quote:

According to NBA reporter Keith Langlois, Ryan could land with the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons are first in waiver order and have an open roster spot. Pistons general manager Trajan Langdon had the same role with the Pelicans last season and claimed Ryan when he was waived by the Minnesota Timberwolves last October.

Seen this, hopefully it happens, Matt deserves to be on a roster

I'm having trouble coming up with likely trade scenarios down the line where that extra money mattered. If Detroit is a likely landing spot I wonder if he asked out because he knew he wasn't going to get much opportunity here.

Let’s not mix words. Matt was cut because his contract was non guaranteed. JRE’s contract is. We did it to save money. Nothing more, nothing less.

Funny time to be waiving a good shooting wing with Trey out.

One is terrible

The other is 6’8” 225 and somehow expected to play the 5.

And yes I know JRE is a better defender, and I don’t care. If we wanted a backup big, then get a backup big.
We gauranteed his contract this offseason. No one said we had to do that.

I think this is the team telling Hawkins those are his minutes to lose.

Jake Madison @NOLAJake · 10m Got a scoop for y'all. Some transaction news. Working to confirm...

Promise of a scoop doesn’t seem worthy of its own thread, but if a local guy has it I’m wondering if it’s a minor addition that will make cutting Ryan make more sense.
