Trolling Motor battery recommendations
Posted on 12/4/24 at 3:37 pm

I found an old thread and it seemed like the Everstarts at WalMart were the one most recommended. Sam's Duracell also had some recommendations.
Are these still the recommendations? I need to replace 3 Group 27 batteried for my trolling motor?
I am not ready to jump to lithium.

I think I may have been the one recommending the Sam's Duracell. They are still good batteries. They are DEKA batteries which are made in USA. The last bunch lasted us 5 years. 31group AGM.

Sams Club AGM Duracell and/or Bass Pro Advanced Angler AGM. Had good luck with both, last 4-5 years.

I only ran Sam's batteries until I switched to lithium a couple years ago.

My last set of Everstart Max 29s went 5 years.
They were fresh built and charged off the shelf and taken care of. Just about any battery will do the deal in that case

Consider lithium. Have more recharges in them, and will lessen the weight in boat by removing the old heavy lead batteries.
Timeusb
Note: Dont charge lithium batteries when temps are below 32 degrees F. You will need a 36 volt battery charger. They have those on Amazon.

Grade A LiFePO4 Cells: specifically built for trolling motor applications, offering over 4,000 deep discharge cycles and providing up to 10 years of service. Compared to lead-acid batteries that typically offer only 300-500 charge cycles, this 36V 50Ah lithium trolling motor battery is the best lithium battery for trolling motors.

So would this one battery replace the 3 12volt batteries I currently use? If so, this might be an option?

Yes it will. Ive their 12V on my livescope and their 24V on my trolling motor.

All I ever used and work just fine. I charge them once a yr.
I guess when you got a 36v trolling motor and your getting 3 batteries, I went everstart in the beginning for best value or when replacing. They get the job done.

I'm just confused as to how they can last that long. Do you not use your TM at all? Also what the heck is trout season?

Yeah, they are a game changer. Just make sure they are LiFePO4. Without getting too technical, they are the most proven and stable lithium battery for a marine environment. At 33 lbs, that 36V battery weighs less than a single ~50 lb 12V AGM battery.
Personally, I went with the 3 ea 12V setup due to retrofit to existing cabling was in place and I already had a 3 bank 36V onboard charger with a Lithium setting. I also like having the option of replacing 1/3 of the single batteries instead of one large battery, but I was told it is unlikely to be an issue with lithium as they last a LOT longer. Time will tell
They are also a lot smaller so I was able to eliminate one of the battery trays under center console. The single best thing I have found is you have a constant power with no voltage drop until battery is dead. TM is just as fast at the end of the day as it was in the morning. I have to imagine that is also better for TM motors.

Trout season , in south la. Trout tend to run out to the reefs/beaches into shallow water when the water warms up from April til Nov. I charge them around april each year or buy new ones if any go bad
Trout season = specks during the warmer months(rigs/ platforms/ reefs/ beaches)
I don't troll the whole time I fish. I know my spots well and use an anchor more than I use my trolling motor.

I'm well aware of how trout pattern and fish LA waters year round & often, just never heard anyone call it that.
Honestly impressed that they last like that, especially in the winter. I buy the Everstarts and charge over night after every trip out. If I go a couple weeks in winter without using the boat, I'll bring it to the house and charge overnight.
