Austin Butler is set to star in Luca Guadagnino‘s new interpretation of the book “American Psycho” by Bret Easton Ellis for Lionsgate.

While there had been rumors that Jacob Elordi was being eyed to play Patrick Bateman, that casting didn’t come to pass. Elordi and Butler have something in common, having both played very different versions of Elvis in movies by Sofia Coppola (“Priscilla”) and Baz Luhrmann (“Elvis”), respectively.

The film, which features a script by Scott Z. Burns (“The Laundromat”), will not be a remake of the 2000 film, but a new adaptation of Ellis’ novel.

Unless Tom Cruise is in charge I don’t want people remaking classic movies. Bale was the perfect Bateman.

He won't be as good as Christian Bale who based his performance on Tom Cruise.

Just to clarify, they do not consider this a remake.

They are allegedly trying to make a more faithful adaptation of the book I think

Kind of splitting hairs on that. The movie was pretty authentic to the novel's plot elements and tone and Bret Easton Ellis gave it a thumbs up.

Same director did the Sudpiria remake which I think is easily one of the best horror remakes of the last 20 years

Which would be ironic considering the director of the OG was a woman

If we're talking Bret Easton Ellis, I would prefer to see a movie version of Glamorama.

The novel is basically a parody of 80's excess. Will the remake also be set in the 80's? If not, I don't see the message working today, unless it's a straight up slasher flick.
