Last year's shed?

Went back into the woods today to find a knife I lost this past weekend that my now deceased mom gave me years ago and stumbled onto this shed. Found the knife and shed. This thing is thick. How long do these last in the woods?

Congrats on finding both.
Looks like a last years shed due to coloring and weathering. I’d assume they last a while like bones and depending on squirrels and rodents.

Good job finding knife. I know it was a relief.
I’ve found sheds during the spring that had already been chewed a good bit, and I’ve found them with a tree growing through it with no chewing, just algae and moss growing on it. I think in general the critters get them quickly, but sometimes they make it unscathed.

Hang a stand where you found it. He’ll be hanging there opening week of bow season (if he ain’t dead).
