If tweet fails to load, click here. Could be Rooney, and Staley is a forgone conclusion, but Daronte has gotten a lot of interviews and people talk about him with a lot of respect.

Wasn't LSU's defense bad in 2021 when he ran it?

In retrospect a lot of people feel like Daronte did a good job with the circumstances he was given

They finished the regular season nicely.

The defense was rough for the first half of the season, but by year's end was playing really well. As mentioned above, they shut down the Heisman winner.

Rooney rule is in effect for position coaches as well?
Posted on 2/13/25 at 10:17 am to Houmatiger0626
Probably, after O ran off all the talent…

Is the Rooney rule only for Head Coach, OC or DC?
I saw that we have already hired our OL coach.

2 interviews for OC and DC
1 interview for QB Coach

It was bad when our favorite head coach switched from a 3-4 under Aranda to 4-3 and it failed miserably. Back end of 2021 Lane Kiffin put some sense into him and we switched back to 3-4 and Daronte did a good job of it.
Daronte Jones was a good DC. We were totally dysfunctional in 2021.

Once O backed the F Off and let the man run his defense it was much better!

Man had Bryce Young in a pretzel with the likes of Cam Lewis and Raydar Jones

Please God no.

Daronte was running a defense too complex for Ed.

Jones' defense was stifled by Orgeron's meddling. Once Jones was given more freedom on his calls, the defense looked much better.

Ridiculous.

Exactly!
Ogeron had the greatest job in the world. All he had to do was hire good coordinators, recruit, and get the hell out of the way in terms of the on-field approach. His ego wouldn't allow it. After being named the 2019 COY, he was going to show the football world his beautiful football brilliance. Gone was Aranda's pussy 3-4 defense. O was going to run the "attacking" 4-3 that late 80's Miami ran or Pete Carroll's early 2000 teams trotted out...despite the fact offensive football had changed drastically in the 20-30 years since those defenses were successful. No worries. He had to get the next Warren Sapp or Russell Maryland and he'd be set.
Good coordinators didn't want to have to run this buffoon's defense. That's why he found guys desperate for a DC job. After his meddling completely tanked the program in 2020 and the first half of 2021 he was fired and finally got out of the way. To the shock of no one the defense (under Jones) suddenly looked very different and very good.
Jones may or may not be a good DC. But he shouldn't be judged by his time at LSU because he had to work under the Michael Scott of HCs
