Curious about the pace of play the current players have compared to 20-30 years ago. Watching the pros so it seems that they take forever to decide what club etc. to use before hitting the ball.

It is taking longer. Tee to green, not as much. Frankly the PGA should allow range finders, would speed tee to green up slightly.

I absolutely fricking hate aimpoint. Between taking a minute to get the ball lined up just right (don’t get me started on alignment lines on the ball) and 5 minutes figuring out what the slope is, then deciding if it’s a 1, 2 or 3 finger break I want to toss a brick at them.

The pros have played pretty fast the last couple of weeks. It was only really bad when they were sending threesomes off both tees. You’re just always going to have a traffic jam in that situation. The smaller fields without split tee starts in twosomes have played in around 4 hours

I find there’s no in between anymore.

You either have guys who walk up and hit their ball no questions asked, or guys who need 3 different satellites to confirm a yardage and a 2 minute routine.

Me personally, I play very quick tee to green and then I’m more deliberate over putts.

I think they trialed it and it actually went slower.

They still used yardage books so they'd consult both and then have to discuss and argue back and forth when inevitably the laser and the book were off by a few yards.

If players would get the yardages and select the club while the others in the group were playing their shots it would speed things up; like Matt Fitzpatrick does. Most watch the other guys deliberate, see the shot, then start doing their calculations and discussions. When it's your turn you should be ready to go within 30-45 seconds.

To paraphrase Bill Walton:

“If I will only live through one more round of golf, I hope I’m playing behind Ben Crane and Patrick Cantlay.”
