One of best songs of all time. The end.
Prove me right.

It’s cool but it’s not even the best LZ song on that album, much less one of the best ever by anyone.

It's ok, but it's not even the best song on that album side.

Beautiful line
Rain Song is my favorite Zep song, but this one is right up there. It’s perfection

It is one of my favorite LZ songs for sure

Why not. My favorite LZ song changes from month to month so i'll let this one take the top seed for a while. Physical Graffiti is largely made up of songs that didn't make the cut on previous albums and it sounds like it with very different sounds. They laid down an original 8 songs:

..and then took stuff rejected from other albums to fill it out and make it a double. The case of having too much for one but not enough for two.

The "graffiti eight" tracks recorded for Led Zeppelin's album Physical Graffiti were "Custard Pie", "In My Time of Dying", "Trampled Underfoot", "Kashmir", "In The Light", "Ten Years Gone", "The Wanton Song", and "Sick Again".

Today I learned that The Rover was recorded during Houses of the Holy sessions. My favorite off of PG.

Robert Plant wrote the lyrics about a girlfriend who made him choose between her and his music 10 years earlier. She got the boot. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine (March 13, 1975) the interviewer, Cameron Crowe, asked Robert Plant what gambles he had taken. Plant replied: "Let me tell you a little story behind the song 'Ten Years Gone' on our new album. I was working my arse off before joining Zeppelin. A lady I really dearly loved said, 'Right. It's me or your fans.' Not that I had fans, but I said, 'I can't stop, I've got to keep going.' She's quite content these days, I imagine. She's got a washing machine that works by itself and a little sports-car. We wouldn't have anything to say anymore. I could probably relate to her, but she couldn't relate to me. I'd be smiling too much. Ten years gone, I'm afraid. Anyway, there's a gamble for you."
I love Plant’s explanation of the meaning.

Ten Years Gone is one of my top 10 rock era songs. Perfection.

Jim Miller of Rolling Stone described "Ten Years Gone" as having a progression reminiscent of the Beatles' "Dear Prudence" that "resolves in a beautifully waddling refrain."Miller also believed Plant sounded like Rod Stewart on the track, with Page "scooping broad and fuzzy chords" behind him.

Top 10 Zep song imo.

So, the "Botswana Brown" telecaster that starred in this song had the famous (infamous?) B-bender and the song was built around the B-bender's capabilities.
Of course, it was impossible to keep in tune and live versions were a special sort of drama, but beautiful in its imperfections.
Bonham would play one more show in the UK at the same venue 1 week later. They would play a few shows on the continent the following Summer (1980) and then he would be gone. This is probably one of the last 2 shows with John Bonham at anything remotely close to full strength (ETA: and the last time they would perform this song live.)

Page sounded horrible at this point. I enjoy some sloppy and raw guitar work, but it's almost unrecognizable.
