Doing this trip for first time in the fall. Any “Must See” things to work into trip or worth spending an extra day in a nearby town? Suggestions for walkable areas to stay?

Brother and I are taking our 70 year old Dad for his first away game so should be low key. For example, I’ve been reading about Civil War so worth pit stop at Stones River Battlefield?

I'd look into Franklin if the Civil War is something of interest. Plus, Franklin has several good restaurants, bars, and boutiques to build into it.

We went during the 15-0 year and they ran out of beer in the stadium at half time. lol Hattie's Hot Chicken was a must for us since so many people recommended it as was Biscuit Love for breakfast/brunch.

Hattie's is the touristy place. I'd probably go with Prince's.

Biscuit Love is good. Pancake Pantry is good. But get there early on a Saturday or Sunday morning or you will be waiting a while. Buttermilk Ranch and Milk and Honey are also popular.

Lot of Nashville posts on the board FYI.

Where To Stay Thread

My $.02:

Civil War

Stones River is a great battlefield to visit, but it's in Murfreesboro. About 35 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic.

Near Downtown

Fort Negley: A free, well-preserved Union fortification with interpretive trails and exhibits. It’s a great starting point for understanding Nashville’s strategic role during the war.

Franklin

Franklin (above 30 minutes south of Nashville. One of the coolest small towns in the country. You can spend an entire day sightseeing, eating, drinking).

Sites:

Battle Of Franklin - Civil War Museum: A deeply immersive museum showcasing one of the most well-preserved Civil War properties in the country.

Carnton: {MUST SEE!!} Once a field hospital, this historic home offers powerful tours that bring the human cost of war into sharp focus.

Fort Granger: A scenic park with trails and remnants of Union fortifications—great for a reflective walk-through history.

Carter House: Located at the epicenter of the battle, this home still bears bullet holes and offers vivid battlefield storytelling.

The hop-on/hop-off bus tour is nice. Can't get more low key than that.

Can't say enough good things about Sperry's in Franklin. Great meal for the money, though not cheap.

You say Hattie B's is touristy, then recommend two more tourist-only spots

Hattie B's is fine. Consistent. Princes has moved out to the burbs. The only hot chicken I'd avoid is Partyfoul.

Franklin is the best suggestion for civil war stuff. With a 70 year old, if you got to Fort Granger, park in the lot off of Eddy Ln. Much shorter walk than parking at the Pinkerton park lot.

Prince's is the original. There is one in the Assembly Food Hall. I wouldn't wait in a long line for any of it. Yes, I'd avoid Party Fowl.

I recommended all the standard brunch spots and agreed that Biscuit Love is good. But the lines are insane unless you get there early.

My daughter (no pics) lives in Nashville. We are always more likely to go to 12 South or Green Hills, or drive out to Franklin than to go anywhere on Broadway.

Sadly, our favorite parking spot (the Library garage) had a fire and isn't currently open.

That's generally true, but we find whenever we actually go down there it's fun and we feel like "we should do this more often".

Really like Sixty Vines off Broadway.

We usually park at the Music City Center. Couple of block walk. Reasonably priced, sometimes even free (for whatever reason!)

All of this is good advice. I will add that there are some superb restaurants downtown. The Standard is a great restaurant in a cool historical setting. Hall's Chophouse has a great Nashville location, probably better than the Charleston location. Harper's and Gannon's are great restaurants as well.

I enjoy going to look at guitars at Carter's and Gruhn's. Those both have crazy cool selections.

So many cool things to do in that town.
