Bend/ Redmond OR recommendations...

We're going up there in a couple weeks for the Fairwell Festival. The festival itself will take up the bulk of the time we are there, but we will have one day to go sightseeing or whatever. Any recs of what we should check out or do? Places to eat, bars appreciated as well. We are staying at the Hampton near the fair grounds. We'll have a Jeep rented to get around in...

go to newberry volcano national monument. It’s one of the coolest places I’ve ever seen

Smith Rock State Park is about an hour away, and well worth the trip

Newberry Crater, Sisters, Cascade mountain lake loop, Pilot Butte, downtown Bend, old mill district Bend, Deschutes River, Bend Breweries.

Other than to go to the festival, I'd get out of Redmond as quickly as possible. No reason to spend any time there.
Nothing beats sitting out by the river at Bend Brewing on a nice day. Crux is excellent too, but not as nice an outdoor space.
Coffee- Thump is amazing, Back Porch and Sisters are both great.
Breakfast- Jacksons is our favorite spot. Lemon Tree is great too
Dinner- BOSA, South Bend Bistro in Sunriver,
You just go up and down Galveston street going from one brewery and great restaurant to another.
Weather should be amazing that time of the year and warm enough for a swim or float in the river.

Crux Fermentation Project for a little R&R at the end of the day. Restaurant inside, food trucks outside, Cornhole, live music and a spectacular view of the sunset over the mountains. There is a large open fences in space outside, so it is not crowded even with a good sized crowd. You can grab a beer, some food, and an Adirondack chair and chill. The downside is that you'll have to drink good beer...
Another good activity during the day is to rent an inner tube and float down the Deschutes River through the center of Bend. It's very relaxing and the scenery is amazing. When you get to the spot where you get out of the water, they have a truck that will take you back to where you started. You can do it again, if you want. Takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.

Since you’ll be staying in Redmond, just go to Smith Rock.
That’s a day there.
Then go Margas Winery to end the evening.

I had no idea who she was prior to the festival. Holy shite. That was something to see
We really enjoyed it up there in central Oregon. We flew in Thursday morning and had a fine lunch outside on the river at Pine Tavern in Bend. Afterwards we had a few beers at Bend Brewing before spending the afternoon floating the Deschutes thru town. Really cool and real easy utilizing Park and Float which shuttles you to and fro the river. Had dinner that night in downtown Redmond at the Brickhouse. Food was solid and it's a neat place.
Friday morning we went to the Newberry Volcanic National Monument, thanks to recs here. Great suggestion. After a few hours hiking around there we went back to Bend for lunch at Currents. My favorite meal of the trip. It's a beautiful place with seating right on the river. Festivaled the rest of the day/night that finished with Tyler Childers who killed it.
Between the Newberry volcano hiking and the festival we had walked 15-16 miles Friday. So we picked a waterfall we could drive to Saturday morning which was Tumalo falls. Pretty waterfall and easily accessible by car. After that we had breakfast/brunch at Lemon Tree. The food was good as were the bloodies, but the place was small and cramped with a pretentious vibe that was not my cup of tea. Oh well. Saturday was an awesome day for music at the festival. The final 4 acts on the main stage were Robert Earl Keen- Charles Wesley Godwin- Sierra Ferrell then Sturgill mfing Simpson who destroyed it for 3 hours. The setting sun illuminating the 3 Sisters in the background and Johnny Blue Skys wailing on his guitar was wild.
Bleary eyed flight out Sunday morning, but it was a fine trip. Beautiful part of the country.
