Insane, I was expecting a violent swing but he looks smooth as butter

His highest club head speed on Sunday was 196.

I just noticed just how far under the red line his head was at impact.

You mean ball speed?? Because that’s would legitimately the fastest clubhead speed recorded by like 20mph

Pivot compression. Former LSU great Wayne Defrancesco teaches the move. It’s a crunch to create ground force in the takeaway and start of downswing. Shallows the club as well.
Look up Wayne he has great videos on the subject.

The guy that teaches him also teaches Akshay and a few other D1 guys. The move just looks unsustainable long term.

When I was playing competitive golf, I had gotten to where my left hand was really strong and I could use my spine angle to keep from getting the club too steep. Niemann, potgeiter, and several other young guns are playing very well with this method.
It was fun hitting the ball that way but it absolutely wrecks your lower outside back. I’m reminded every morning when I wake up and every time I stand up from sitting for a while.
It’s also damn near impossible to be a good chipper with a strong left hand.

Azinger used to play this way, but back then you couldn’t try and kill the ball cause it was the old Blata that would spin like hell. For,the most part the modern game is playing from a shut position and holding off the face with rotation of the body. Like you say the main problem for modern guys like Hovland is the short game. It is very hard to maintain loft on wedges with such a strong left hand,.

Agree and should use weaker grip on the finesse shots around green.

Pot. The ideal physique.
Love watching this kid. Already a good putter, if he figures out short irons and gets better around the greens, he's going to be nasty.
Seems like that strong grip bites him on his irons as he tends to over draw/pull pretty badly. I'm sure he corrects it some but it has to drift into his irons from how he swings the driver.

The next great South African. I’m rooting for him but geez does he look like a slob.

He’s a former rugby player and wrestler. Young Aldrich is a deceptively good athlete.
