Settle a Harry Potter debate for me

My wife and I disagree as to who actually paid for Harry’s Nimbus 2000. She says Harry actually ended up paying for it, and I disagree, saying that McGonagall paid for it. We both agree that she facilitated him getting the broom for sure, but disagree as to actual payment. For the record, the book does not explicitly say, but it is heavily implied she bought it for him. Also, logic suggests that it would be pretty fricked up to take a bunch of money out of a minor’s bank account without consent. I argue it would be like Harry’s teacher basically financing a brand new car without his knowledge or consent.
My wife says McGonagall simply got Harry on the team and got the broom he would need but that he paid for it in the end because it’s an extravagant expense and would be a conflict of interest for a teacher to use her pay for that.
What say you book board?

I haven't read these in years but I have always thought McGonagall paid for it.

I always thought Sirius Black paid for it and sent it as an anonymous gift but it's been decades since I read them and wasn't into it enough for a re-read.

Sirius buys the Firebolt, McGonagall got him the Nimbus. I think the school may have paid for it though. Maybe an alumni fund or something. She said she would talk to Dumbledore about an exception to be made, but not outright says the exception is for a first year to have a broom or what else is involved there. It’s clear she doesn’t offer the same deal when he breaks the Nimbus though, even though he hasn’t won a cup yet.

Minerva bought it man. Thought it was pretty obvious. She was a quidditch fiend and degenerate gambler and finally saw her way to the title.

McGonagall definitely got it. That’s not up for debate, the letter it came with was explicitly signed by her. She also wanted to not make a scene about him getting one.
Now, was it paid by her, her and dumbledore splitting, or a school fund (which is explicitly mentioned but is never actually seen used), who knows.
The main counter argument to this is that it’s completely made up, it’s never even hinted at in the books and the only basis is her feelings.

I mean, Hogwarts teachers never ever did anything that would represent a potential conflict of interest.

Dumbledore just gave 100 points to Harry because of your post.

Snape booked the field for a solid two weeks after giving points in retaliation of Harry getting the broom and Dumbledore giving all those points.
