I don't really blame him. If he can't film it, then the PGA Tour is making money off of him while he is not gaining. This is his job. I don't watch Grant's channel, but I don't think what he is saying is wrong. I'm sure people are wondering why he wouldn't play. So, he is just explaining it.

You suck at making thread titles.
Looks like another L for the PGA Tour

I'd be interested to see the basis for the claim that Horvat benefits less than the PGA tour event. I can see how that could maybe be the case based on viewership metrics for his content vs the lowest level PGA events on a Thursday, but that seems to take for granted that he will play like crap and miss the cut. If he made the cut at any PGA event, it's a huge story that would seem to inarguably benefit him a great deal more than his standard youtube content (which I find boring). And it makes no sense to bash the PGA over this - the same argument Horvat is making also applies to the golfers on that Tour in reverse (why would they lend their exposure to him to profit separately). Pro golf is bigger than one youtube golfer imo. I agree that the best bet for the future is to not invite these guys to play pro events. I'm all for them having some relationship with pro golf, but not in a competitive sense with tour golfers.

Exactly!
Also Grant is boring as hell to watch.

Is he referring to an actual PGA Tour event or one of the pre-tournament events? I know he did something like this recently where he was very vague with his wording, and it turned out that it was a pre-tournament event.

He was invited to play in the Barracuda on a sponsor’s exemption

He's respectfully declining the invite and giving a reasonable reason while thanking the Tour and the sponsor. Not sure what you want him to do in that situation, but it seems like he handled it perfectly.

I mean, it’s an opportunity to play in a PGA Tour event, and he’d still be able to create videos about it that get over a million views. From an actual golf perspective if you’re trying to have a competitive future, you should absolutely do this as well. He kind of faked being in a KFT event, so I feel like he has some aspirations to be competitive.
But IMO, he is understandably worried about losing viewers if some people see where he stacks compared to actual PGA Tour players over a given tournament. Scottie Scheffler told him he should do it, but he’s getting advice from Phil and the Bryan Bros who don’t always love the PGA Tour. The PGA Tour was never gonna change their whole approach for tournaments for Grant Horvat.

No shite. Who exactly do you think you are? You should just decline the invite

IMO Grant is turning down the invite not because of him not being allowed to film but because he knows he's not ready or good enough to compete on this level and this is an easier out for his ego than to simply turn down the offer. I think this is also ultimately up to the network with media rights to the event itself, not so much the PGA Tour. The golf channel or whoever would have exclusive rights to televise the event. Letting a youtube golfer have a separate feed would be a breach of that contract the PGA Tour has with the network. Grant knew all of this and knew what the answer would be. The PGA has started to allow youtube guys to film content at pro ams because there is no media contract to deal with as those events are not televised. This is different. They're not going to allow a secondary camera crew follow around another golfer during an actual PGA tour event without them paying and contracting for those media rights just like the networks do. For instance, the PGA didn't just let Netflix film their show during PGA events for free.
Regardless, I think Grant would still stand to gain more attention in his space playing in this event without being able to film it. The Bryan Bros have worked around this issue all the time, in this same event no less when George got a sponsors expemption.

I find most YouTube golfers annoying to listen too. There are very few I’ll sit and watch an entire video of.
But Grant makes money by videoing his experience and posting that content and if he can’t do that then that’s his choice. He could use that time towards something that would benefit him and I can’t blame him for that. Essentially he’d be working for free for a week.

I don't watch a ton of his stuff, but from the few matches I've seen him do with Phil and some of the other pros, I've never seen him act like or say he was a touring pro level golfer.
If anything he seems very well aware that his game isn't close to that of touring pros.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but he said in an interview he did with Takomo on youtubein the last couple of weeks that he thinks he could make the cut in a PGA event.
