I’ve been listening to Shotgun Start and Fried Egg Golf.

Any other suggestions? As a latecomer to this beautiful game, I’m trying to learn everything as fast as I can, so I’d like to listen to a podcast that includes some discussion of the game itself generally.

Lastly, is there a cure for golf addiction?

I think Shotgun Start and Fried Egg Golf are the two best podcasts.

other good ones I've listened to...

No Laying Up - Similar to the Shotgun Start but not as good and I feel like NLU has gotten worse over the last year or two

Chasing Scratch - Completely different than the others mentioned above it starts with the general gist of the show being two guys, starting at 11 handicaps at the beginning of last year, trying to get down to scratch in one year. You need to listen to this one in chronological order.

Subpar - Weekly, they typically get pretty good guests

The Sweet Spot - I haven't listened to this much, but might be more geared to instruction and your personal golf game than the other tour focused podcasts mentioned

No.

More people used to quit or go long stretches without playing.

Then COVIDians shut the world down and golf became more popular than ever.

It seems stickier as far as new people trying the game and especially for people coming back to the game.

I used to think the “Big Quit” would be in 2024, but I suspect it will only grow from here.

Started listening on the drive home and so far it’s exactly what I was wanting. Thanks!

Don't listen to many golf podcasts anymore. Kind of burnt out on them. I'll still listen to Foreplay after big tournaments. Riggs is actually really good at recapping the week from start to finish.

If you like it, one of the hosts, Jon Sherman, wrote a book, The Four Foundations of Golf, that was pretty informative. I downloaded the audiobook and it helped me, I'd recommend it if you're looking for game improvement information.

I'll second this recommendation. Very easy read. He does a great job of explaining how to become a better golfer simply by playing smarter without improving any mechanics.

I used to listen to the Sweet Spot a ton, but a lot of the topics have gotten a bit repetitive after a couple of years. They also started doing something I really hate, which is rereleasing old podcasts.

I like Subpar and Smylie Kaufman's show.

I find the NLU crew to be very pretentious. Foreplay is okay for what its worth and occasionally they get good interviews.

Adam Young has some pretty in depth books as well if you're a junkie. I didn't know about this podcast I'm going to give it a listen.

Used to be a big fan, but they got to be very pretentious over the years to the point where I don't even listen anymore.

I'll just drop in to counter some of the NLU comments. I completely get people thinking they are pretentious. I don't think they are, but I wouldn't call anyone saying that a hater. I pretty much consume anything they put out whether it is a podcast or on YouTube. The only thing I skip is when it's about the LPGA.

On the NLU subject, Soly is extremely pretentious and it’s more prevalent when he’s running the show.

He’s a snob about the courses, a douche about data, and can’t handle being questioned.

He is a pretty good interviewer though.

I’m fine with the rest of the crew.

Yeah my favorite NLU pod is the Trap Draw when it’s just Tron and Big Randy. But that’s non-golf

Trap Draw is great.

NLU is at its best when Soly is out of pocket and DJ is moderating TC, Neil, and Randy.

Turns into a let’s just shoot the shite about golf episode instead of let’s go in depth on shots gained, why this bunker is where, etc.

To answer the original question in the thread, I listen to most of the NLU content and Smylie Kaufman’s show.

I used to listen to Foreplay, but I got tired of the schtick. Pinehurst every day, orgasming when a video of Tiger is posted walking without a limp, TaylorMade, TaylorMade,TaylorMade.

Agree with this, but I think TC is equally pretentious, snobby, and douche.

Tron's shtick has become insufferable imo, he is becoming a persona of the persona he created for the show, like a Stephen A/Skip Bayless/Cowherd type. Soly's Ryder Cup shtick is so boring and tiresome.

Its felt like they've been playing back the same "bits" over and over that aren't all that funny.

The podcast just isn't good content anymore imo. I do still really like the video content

Their Tourist Sauce and Strapped series are probably some of the best content on the web. Their old Wide World of Golf stuff was great too.

But with them all getting older, married, having kids, and moving it seems as though their passion isn’t there as they have matured.
