We are located in Corpus Christi where there are lots of boat suppliers. My son's 13 year old 150 got messed up by a dealer improperly torquing the fly wheel following requested maintenance. Dealer ghosted him.

Looking for a replacement, he found a new one in Thibodeaux for 6000 less than locally available.

Dealer would be footing the bill if that was my motor.

File complaint with BBB. Give an honest opinion on dealer's facebook page. Generate some social media heat on dealer ruining a 13 year old's outboard. He'll stop being a ghost. Look up motor's used value. Ask dealer to reimburse that amount to use towards purchasing another outboard. File claim in small claims court if needed.

At one point the dealer in thibodaux sold the second most Yamaha outboards in the US. The number one seller was in Alaska.

I took that to read that the outboard is 13 years old and not the son

You might be right. But he wrote "13 year old's". Old's is possessive tense. Took it to mean a 13 year old person.

Either way that dealer would be paying me the value of the ruined outboard motor.

BBB can't do anything . They are a private company that tries to aggregate complaints on their site so they can extort money from the business for removing them. They have no authority over anything and have no mechanism to hold a business accountable.

If you want actual results you would contact Consumer Protection in that state. For Texas it is the Texas Attorney General - Consumer Protection Division.

If you are going new, The Suzuki 150 is less and is a great motor. I went to Suzuki from Yamaha and their inline 4 cyl engines are just as good and reliable as Yamaha, and I like Yamaha.

Facebook seems to be the most efficient way to go about this these days.

They've been great forever- in 1988 we bought a 16' McKee from H&H, my dad had old Johnson-itis from back in the day- so he wanted one of those "new Yamahas"

Chenier rigged it (now Southern), but they ran it on a 6 gallon tank in their shop. When we filled the boat's tanks, it had an airlock, or the big Racor filter just hadn't been filled....I was in the 6th grade, so no telling.

But I do remember Kevin coming to the boat launch in Lockport in his Bronco with a little vacuum pump to get every thing primed and going.

I like going there to get my parts now- Kevin's wife and his or her mom (not sure) always knows what I need and they have it.

Yep. Blast the shop in a review on their own page. Then post in all the local fishing and boating groups in your area. That should get the shop's attention.
