Criminal court in Orleans used to have a ping pong ball with a random section allotted. Always concerned with shenanigans.

I do not know how but the process is either corrupt as shite or else there are a lot of corrupt judges.

This is correct, unless the assigned judge has a conflict (party relation, business relationship, etc.) In that case, the judge has to recuse himself and gives reasons. I believe that goes to the Chief judge to approve.

If a democrat is under legal peril in DC, Maryland, Virginia, New York or California, their cases are moved to an Obama or Biden judge.

Don't assume they do it by computers now. The Orleans Parish court system is still trying to catch up to this century.

In Louisiana it is done randomly by computer.
I remember over 30 years ago it was done randomly by a human operated bingo ball machine that left open the possibility of foul play.

The Chief District judge is in charge of case assignments. There will be a standing order that discusses the process (eg ED VA standing order) In the EdVA example, it will first get assigned a region (Richmond, Alexandria, Newport News, or Norfolk) and then there eillbe a computer based weighing assignment EDVA website
When it's assigned to Alexandria, the choices are reduced to Brinkema, Alston, Giles, Nachmanoff, and Senior Juges Hilton and Trenga. FJC Mark Davis is the chef judge of the District

I believe it is by random draw in most cases. In northern VA all judges are far left, so it is no surprise one was assigned to Comey.
