Why would a businessman with a federal firearms license accept a shipment from Bud' Gun Shop if all they get is the money from a processing fee?

The customer's going to buy it regardless, might as well get the transfer fee and potential accessory sales from getting them in the door.
The non-dick move is to call them before ordering, and see if they can match or at least get close to the total price of the sale (gun, shipping, transfer fee). They usually can match it by the time you add all that other crap in.

Because the businessman doesn't have the luxury of carrying the amount of firearms Buds does.
But I knew a pharmacist with an FFL that would help people out by selling guns at cost. You went in and he handed you a Bible with nearly every gun you could imagine. He'd show you cost list of each. He'd order it and when it came in you paid and left. This was over 10 years ago. I'm not sure if he still does it anymore.

Many Pawn shops do it because it's free money and they otherwise would not have even been involved in the sale.

I am not singling out Bud's. In fact, they have the best price on a rifle that I am looking at. And yes, I would give my local business a chance to match the price.

There are guys with FFLs that that is all they do. No inventory to keep, just fill out the paperwork and transfer them. I bought a good bit from buds, there was a guy in the military that had an FFL and would do it for $25.00. less than the sales tax for in state buy.

i bought 4 new rifles from gold n guns pawn shop in gonzales over the years...i ordered, he received and processed and was happy to do it

it appears like you are is what i'm saying. This is a question really about ordering guns online from anywhere to any local FFL's. Its just the new world we live in. Local places can't keep the inventory and various selections needed anymore for the most part.

I get my guns sent to a pawn shop down the street, they get $30 from me everytime. If not for that I'd never step foot in the place.

The margins on most guns is around 10%. Also unless you’re a volume dealer you aren’t getting the new hottest selling guns. Your distributor is going to send those guns to his volume dealers to keep them happy. Some local FFL can do a couple thousand a month in transfer fees. It helps keep the lights on.

I've debated getting an FFL and just acting as a go between for online purchases, with the occasional "put lower on upper" style manufacturing. Need to do way more research, but can't be more paperwork than CPA/Controller type stuff I do with my current job.

Picked up a gun last week from a shop I had never been to. I just picked the closest FFL option listed from Bud's site. They charged $40 for maybe 10-min of work. Paperwork took less than 5min. Seems like good margins for them. And they were happy to take my money.
