One thing that's clear after this season...

Notre Dame didn't have any problems whatsoever moving on from Brian Kelly's departure at the end of the 2021 season. Marcus Freeman has done a brilliant job sustaining that program's success.

He has for sure, but ND’s AD and boosters stepped up to help him after BK left. They had no NIL collective to speak of and they were dragging their feet on facility upgrades which was why Kelly was willing to make a move (also $100mil was a reason too)

He probably should have waited. NIL was brand new in 2021 and Notre Dame might have been trying to decide the best way forward. They are a private Catholic school and things might work a little differently for them.

Agreed. Hell, LSU’s collective wasn’t in any better shape.

Yep. Let’s face it there ain’t many institutions better at collecting money than church based ones.
I think that’s why every few years you’ll see a Liberty or someone make runs with a good roster. That offering plate money ain’t nothing to sneeze at

It’s clear that the new playoff system was put into place to guarante the gumps get into the playoffs every year. They have no business getting in this year but even if they managed to get 3 loses they would put them in after conference championship games eleminated teams in front of them. Backdoor U!

Let’s see how this season plays out, but arguably Freeman is elevating it.
High school recruiting has been equal, but Freeman has done great in the portal. Guys like Hartman and Riley were coveted QB transfers, and Fields was one of the top WR transfers.
Managing to keep both Love and Price shows his connection to the players. Price could be a starter anywhere in the country and chose to still come back to ND this season. Conversely Love is 3rd in Heisman odds right now splitting carries, he could have easily left to go be the feature back somewhere but stayed.
If Freeman gets to a title game again he surpasses BK, if he wins it, he’s on the path to all time ND great.

I have a working theory that the mystique of ND and what players bought into with it (academics) that hurt them in the past (missing on some elite players) helps them now with NIL (less roster volatility) but someone is gonna have to prove that with some math because I could be full of shite
I did workshop that with a ND alum and he didn't scoff at it.

As much as I loathe ND, Jeremiyeh Love is my favorite non-Bama player this season.

No numbers to back it up, but that sort of makes sense. A school like Indiana or Texas Tech, or even TAMU, won’t have those 3rd string guys that are loyal and build the depth a top team needs. Programs like ND, OSU, UGA, LSU, etc should benefit from kids growing up loving that school and being okay sticking it out.
