This school popped up in my feed, I have never heard of it. Looks like Mandeville is accepting students now via lottery and Covington to open on Ochsner Blvd. soon. Has anyone heard of this school? If so, thoughts? Vs the traditional STP elementary schools in Mandeville and Covington. Thank you.

A private lottery in Louisiana, what could possibly go wrong?

Yeah, I’m going to read more on it when I have time. My grand is in Covington, but not of kindergarten age yet. She is in Covington Elementary district unless they choose to enroll her in a private school. They are leaning toward CE because STP schools are good. Here on the south shore, one doesn’t use public school. So this piqued my interest because I haven’t heard of it.

Thank you. I read about it, but was wondering if anyone here had experience or had planning to use.

Home school is the only option to make sure your kid doesn’t turn out to be a non binary Palestine loving tranny

How many kids have you put through the St Tammany parish school system?

i mean the principal at Pontchartrain Elementary is pretty flamboyantly gay, so there's that.

Can someone define "classical" education for me, because when I hear it I think of liberal arts universities they churn our they/thems that have no skills worthy of employment.

Any everyone knows, exposure to gays leads to being transexual and liberal. It's why we made our daughter wear a mask everyday to elementary, middle and junior high school in St Tammany. You can never be too safe.

I honestly don't know how so many young Conservatives escape the private or public school system without blue hair and septum rings.

from wikipedia

Charter Schools USA (CSUSA) is a for-profit education management organization in the United States. It operates eighty-seven schools in seven states including sixty one charter schools in Florida.[1] In 2019, Charter Schools USA managed charter schools enrolling approximately 70,000 students on a vendor operated school basis.[2]: 87

CSUSA management-run schools are tuition-free to the parent. Students must wear uniforms and parental involvement is required. Teachers are paid for performance and teach a standard curriculum that includes music, art, sciences and customary classes. Charter Schools USA manages every aspect of the program from marketing for new students, teacher recruitment, curriculum development, equipment and book ordering to financial management and oversight.

I know you're being sarcastic, but there's a lot of truth in what you're poking fun at. Parents do everything they can to protect their kids from evil influences, and then have their tax dollars taken from them to pay for those influences to be put over them in an authority position.

That is how I’m feeling reading up on it. Best to stick with the STP public schools based on what I’m reading. Not for me to decide, but I won’t show this school to the kids.

Well, a truly classical education would require reading classical literature (from Greek, English, American, and more), studying math, science, and music.

Most modern schools/universities do not do this. If they did, the students would be prepared for the work world.

My kids attend a public charter classical school in Houston.

Basically it’s the type of education that Thomas Jefferson would have had. It leads to great learners and thinkers. “How” to think, not “what” to think.

Modern day education is very pragmatic and focus on being competent enough to complete the tasks necessary to begin working. Heavily influenced by workforce needs from the Industrial Revolution. Leads to students asking “why do I need to learn this since I’ll never use it?”

I really like the curriculum and the academics at the school. Some of the hallmarks of a classical education:

A focus on searching for identifying the good, true, and beautiful in the world. Virtues over vices, order over chaos, etc

A focus on developing the whole student. Not just teaching facts and information, but also instructing on living a virtuous life. Patience, honesty, charity.. etc

The teaching styles adapt for the age of the students. Elementary age kids memorize facts and focus less on understanding/application. My daughter learned the bones of the body in kindergarten. They memorized the multiplication tables in third grade. Middle school teaches to understand how the facts relate and work together. High school is more for application and debate. If you want to know more about this look up the grammar, logic, and rhetoric schools in classical education.

A focus on reading classic works of literature from throughout history that have contributed to western civilization and culture.
