What would you strategy be at QB for this portal cycle?

Not a melt post - I think the staff will make it work. Just curious what your strategy would be? You have to find a legit, proven (hopefully) starter and AT LEAST one guy that you think can play at this level but is willing to be a backup. Similar to MVB coming here.
Would you throw everything at Leavitt and then try to get a G6 starter to come be a backup? Try to find a P4 backup who is willing to come be a backup at LSU?
Picarella actually had some P4 offers so he could be serviceable as the #3 - I think they may put him on scholarship depending on who else they can get.
Admins - not sure if this is better here or on the Recruiting Board - please move if necessary.

For starters, I would make sure that the guy you pay $4m + to has 2 functional feet the moment that he is on campus.

Kiffin disproved this assertion this year

You kinda have to get Leavitt now and a younger quarterback with multiple years remaining that you could sell on possibility being the guy if something happens with Leavitt's injury.

I'd be okay with Clark battling Leavitt for the job in year 1 while Leavitt recovers and learns the system with Picarella as the #3 if Kiffin/Weis see potential in him

#1 starter- Kenny Minchey then sorsby, leavitt
#2 depth/development come in and take the starting job if you can- Colton Joseph, Bryce Baker, knight
#3 back up plans- lagway, aidan chiles (Mich State), pribulla, aj hill, holstein

I say we go get lagway at a good value and then Deuce knight on the cheaper end. Let them battle it out and get someone else for depth.

Ole Miss folks claim it was Joe Judge that found him
I have full confidence in Kiffin to identify the right QB for his system. I’m more concerned with OL at this stage.

247 lists 108 QBs in the portal; 20 are already off the board. 247 Portal QB List
That leaves 88 QBs on the 247 list.
While I can't assess the vast majority of them, I have no doubt that Kiffin and staff can.
I also have no doubt that they can determine the relative value of those QBs considering their talent and signing price.
There likely are QBs on whom few of us have much information, that might be targeted by LSU.
My strategy is to support the QB(s) Kiffin signs.

Could very well be someone not in the portal yet. Our search team contacts his agent with interest, money is discussed, etc. and a business decision is reached.

IMO they need to bridge the gap until Pop is ready. Whether they want to take their lumps with Pop as a freshman in 27 or have him learn for a year and start him in 28 doesn’t matter. Jus make a plan for it.

Couldn’t believe Kiffin went in on Sorsby. If there is a college head coach besides Belichek that knows the Power of the Pussy, it’s Kiffin.

Players have until January 16 to enter the portal, but that is not the deadline to get a deal done.

The Chambliss pickup by Lane was phenomenal. I'm not sure what it was that he liked. Of course the physical aspects has to be there to make throws and scramble, but he is spotting mental capacity, pre/post snap reads and the quickness of his decision making.
Chambliss was a nobody coming out of highschool.

Best #1 QB I can find and afford.
Best #2 QB (hopefully with 2 years remaining) that I can find and afford (with the idea, if it goes well, he will be poised to be the #1 in 2027, if not, he can always transfer down to start at a lower school).
The best #3 QB I can find and afford. I might even pitch that to Ju'juan Johnson - come back and play some RB, some WR and some QB as a "slash" in 2026. If he can improve at QB, he might be the changeup/#2 QB in 2027, and still play enough to show his all around skills to the NFL.
I mean, I don't think it is that complicated. Kiffin/Weis can do a lot with potential. Finding that potential, at value, is the key to the portal game.
