George Lucas singlehandedly killed Star Wars when he sold the rights to Disney in 2012. I’d say that’s when Star Wars actually died.

IMO, Star Wars officially died at the end of RotJ, when George divorced his wife. She helped him from making some really stupid decisions that would have tanked the franchise before it had taken off.

The only one that cared about doing something old school Star Wars was Favreau. Then Filoni turned The Mandalorian as a means to bring characters he can’t let go to live action and ruining The Mandalorian in the process.

I have zero desire to see it, but the Madolorian movie will probably make a billion dollars. Tigerdroppings dead is different from real life dead.
