In the midst of their team being in the CFP and they are worried about kids staying for next season. They forced Lane's hand too. As if they dont have enough to think about. Are these people insecure about their own football program?

Deep down they know what the future holds for them. They will slowly slip back to mediocrity. Instead of enjoying the great moments their team is having now, they are more interested in finding anything bad with LSU they can point out. Its a coping mechanism.

I mean the portal is open for them too & they need a roster for next year

Indiana has already signed more players than we have & they play Oregon in a few days

They finally got a shot at the whole thing, and......... their coach bolted. They should feel upset and have the "we'll show you" mentality.

When their season ends, all the players start to bolt, Chambliss doesn't get his waiver, and most good portal players have been nabbed up it could be very bad for them.

Well, win or lose this week Ole Miss will have a team next year. Are you suggesting they completely ignore building a roster for next year until their season ends? That's probably not a great strategy. And I suspect you'd be pretty angry if LSU were playing in the semifinals this week and saying "Eh. We aren't really worried about building next year's roster. We'll get to it when we can"

As for the fans, it's not like they are having to prepare for a game. That means they can "worry" about kids staying for next year then "worry" about the actual game on gameday.

we are LSU. Why would we be concerned with signing players that are already on our team while being in the semifinal of the cfp? You'd think the program and present position of the team would speak for itself. They are so insecure that they are going to leave, they care more about paying players than whats directly ahead. Wild.

im refering to their "own" players on the team that are their key guys, not non players not too mention they all get added portal days upon season's finish.

The portal goes both ways. You have to resign your own guys & sign new guys too.

LSU has “signed” 20+ of our own players. I’m sure it’s the same everywhere

paying and signing their key guys "already on the team" for next year and not giving them a chance to make their decision after the season is over is hypocrisy considering they crucified Lane. Their portal doesnt start till seasons end is clearly the point. They more worried about money and signing their own players while they should be focused on the cfp for their players not resigning them. Forcing their hands( their own players) early when its not needed is wild.

So you're suggesting teams playing in the CFP shouldn't do anything to build their rosters for next year until their season ends? There are many dumb things said on this board daily. But thus far, you might be in the lead for today's dumbest statement.

Yes, because football programs recruit themselves by simply existing. Nick Saban didn't actually do any recruiting at Alabama after year two. He just sat at his lake house and watched the players come to him.

Pro teams sign players to contract extensions all the time during the season. So why wouldn't college teams do the same thing? Particularly when the "free agency" period is open simultaneously with the CFP

i get it but the final teams have added days to their portal provided they keep winning. Doing it now shows greed when its not necessary to do so.

Teams who are still playing get extra days to sign players on "their" team after all the cfp is done.

and yes your statement is dumb esp when Ole miss will have added days to each of their players and the portal when done and if the timing went past the actual portal window. Its pointless to attach their own players during the cfp except for greed and insecurity on the programs part that they are forcing their own players hands during their run when it isnt necessary and should be focused on Miami. Roster building sure? Recruit outside players yes but being paranoid about lacy and chambliss(in the event) is wild.

You do know the players aren't forced to "sign" anything right now, right? Ole Miss isn't holding them hostage. Teams make moves to lock in their desired players for the future all the time in order to try to prevent them from becoming free agents. This isn't a particularly new concept

....well, evidently it is for some.

Or, perhaps, they feel guys like Chamblis and Lacy are good players who they'd like to have on their team next season. So rather than allow them test free agency, Ole Miss is offering them a big contract extension now in a effort to try to lock them in for next year's roster. Neither has to sign the extension. They can enter and become a free agent if they want.
