LSU player related. Was watching Craig Carton (New York media personality for years, Philly, Cleveland, etc). He was bragging on how great of a chess player he is. Developed it playing day after day against some great chess players.
Went on to say that there was only two people he would consider better than him that he played. One was a guy from Cleveland. He said “The other guy… and it shocks people when I tell them this. A guy that should be in the baseball hall of fame. Albert Belle. Albert Belle, one of the greatest chess players I’ve ever met. I could not beat him. I could not beat him and man I tried 50 times. Outside of those two, I’m like a Grandmaster”.
Yep, random AF, but had to share as that was something I’d never have guessed in a million years. Who knew?

Of all the extracurricular hobbies to have, I would not have guessed chess to be the one Joey excelled at
Good on him, that’s cool as frick

Meh. Did Albert beat the hell out of the other player to prevent him from playing?

Belle KO's his opponent before they can win.

How is he not HOF? Roid allegations or something. Assume he was on them, but never recall him being busted.
Bagwell was 100% roided and he’s in and not player Belle was.

This doesn’t surprise me. I went to Huntington with Belle. He was Mr HHS and in the top ten of his class of 1984.

Imagine how pissed he gets if someone outmaneuvers him

He's not in the HOF for 2 reasons
1. His career was cut short due to back problems
2. He was an a-hole and no one liked him
He was robbed of 2 MVPs awards too because of the media's hate for him. 1995 was downright criminal
As for the OP, not that surprising. Belle is very intelligent. Pretty sure he had close to a 4.0 in college as an Accounting major and was a very very good student throughout his entire life. I listened to him on a podcast awhile back and he talks about his life plan was to work in finance and didn't really realize he could make money playing baseball until his sophomore year at LSU, so everything he did up until then was focused on making money outside of baseball. His brother is super smart too. His parents were both teachers.

In rapid chess I'm about 1800, in standard time chess my rating is 1700. In blitz , I'm about 1500. Those are my over the board ratings.

Very nice, what about online?

Online I mostly play the daily games and my rating is about 1500. I actually mostly use it to try out new openings, different variations on those openings and new tactics. I like to try these out before trying them in tournaments.
I really hate to play bullet, don't consider it real chess. I've lost many games simply because I wsn't as fast as the other guy with the cursor. That's a poor reason to lose.

Had Joey and his twin brother Terry in my accounting classes at LSU. Super smart. Can’t confirm but I heard Joey passed the CPA exam
