BMW to begin using its own patented screw design. Good luck trying to work on one yourself

You will own nothing and like it.

While the new screw head design is undeniably clever and unmistakably BMW, it appears purpose-built to keep ordinary owners well away from working on their own cars. What makes this more frustrating is that the competition is moving in another direction. Mercedes-Benz, for example, has recently spoken about redesigning future vehicles to be easier to repair, not harder.
quote:
Instead of a Torx, hex, or any other recognisable screw head, this one is shaped like BMW’s roundel. Two quadrants are cavities to accept a matching driver, while the other two remain flush, creating a pattern that standard tools simply cannot engage with. As a final flourish, the BMW logo is embossed around the edge of the screw head, just in case there was any doubt about who owns this particular headache.
quote:
By locking basic mechanical access behind hardware hurdles, BMW is drawing an even thicker line between owners and their cars. DIY jobs become harder, and independent workshops face yet another obstacle when servicing newer models. Something as simple as removing a seat could suddenly turn into a compulsory dealer visit.
You will own nothing and like it.

So, the douchebags going 100 MPH on the interstate and merging 4 lanes left to right in a matter of seconds will just switch to Mercedes?
That's how I read it.

Fun Fact
BMW initially supplied aeroplane engines in WWI
Their logo is a stylized image of a plane prop spinning.

15 years ago the BMW 3 series was the car of choice for over-extended immigrant douchenozzles and rich sorority girls. BMW had that market locked the frick down. For years Lexus, Cadillac, Acura, and Audi have tried to capture that market with only moderate success.
Then Tesla came out with the Model 3 and now I NEVER see the yuppie crowd in a BMW 3 series anymore. They've all moved to Tesla or Uber around everywhere. I guess the nerds won.
The only BMW's I see regularly now are the big SUVs.

I hope it’s still righty tighty, lefty loosy.
Change that. Cats chase dogs. Politicians become honest. Poli board becomes Etsy board.

Probably the same idiot that thought this design was a good idea as well.

So, what I'm hearing is just 3-d print the design and then have it machined.

A reminder for me to never buy another BMW.

BMW copying the Americans, I guess. They certainly made the new 5 series into an fat, overweight, and ugly ride. I think that thing weights more than an F-150 now.
These "Standard of the World" screws are what they've been using in the new $400,000 hand build Cadillac Celestiq in places most people would never look on the car:
That's a much better looking car than the buck tooth strangeness that BMW has been making lately, although it's stupid expensive.

Yup. I contacted a Chinese manufacturing shop and they told me they will make whatever I want. Anything.
