Louisianans, what the hell is up with all the abandoned cars?

I don’t live in Louisiana anymore really, only a few weeks a year. I’m here now and if you drive on any interstate in South La there are so many abandoned cars. With the sticker in the window and everything. I counted 7 going from Slidell to Baton Rouge. There were a bunch going the opposite way too but I didn’t think to count them.
I grew up down here and I don’t recall this being so common. Is my memory wrong?

Probably a variety of reasons such as maintenance, registration, drivers in trouble with the law

They tow them off like once a week.
Most people are hoping to go back for their car before the state contractor hauls it away and tries charge owner more than the car is worth.

I've always wondered how they don't get snatched up by thieves at night to chop them up and sell the good parts.
All you need is a half ton truck or SUV, a car dolly, a Jack and stands to lift the tires since you cannot get it out of gear, and boom. Off you go.
I bet a portion of them are now missing their catalytic converters.

I thought most of those were from folks getting caught driving without insurance

Because people don’t have money for a tow truck if their car breaks down

Hmm that might be it. Either way it’s fricking trashy. This state frickin sucks

Yesterday, I passed a vehicle on the shoulder around Iowa, but the two people weren’t in the vehicle. They were in the grass fighting. You had an obese black woman sitting on top of her man throwing left and right hooks and thrashing all around. It was quite a sight.

So they abandon them for the state to take ?

i hate it but i think it has something to do with insurance and tow trucks/state not wanting to be responsible for any damage. makes no sense to have one sit on the shoulder for days.

I prefer calling it an unplanned donation

Wait until you get off the interstate and drive the back country highways and count discarded tires.

If you think we have a lot, take a ride up to Memphis when you get a chance

In Louisiana, they only steal Cadillac converters.

I frequently drive around the country (I hate flying unless I really have to) and I can tell you it's not a Louisiana exclusive thing anymore. There's a lot of abandoned vehicles on interstates everywhere. Some states are probably more prompt than others at clearing them but they're there.

Hey, leave the Michoud exit out if this!

We have a problem with that in the lot behind my job. No one wants to tow them because of how the abandoned car laws work. You have to hold them in a state approved lot for a year before you cna claim it. We've got a nice Acura SUV that had been there for almost 4 months. No one wants to deal with it

You have to pass through Louisiana to get to the Texas Mexico border.

Now we see the actual reason for the shitty post lol. I also don’t really notice abandon cars on the road very often. At least not more than any other southern area in the country.
