He doesn’t just stand on the sidelines bored with his arms crossed. He walks around a little.

It’s just unnatural and honestly hilarious when he gets mad. Almost like it’s forced to act like he cares

I’ve seen enough. Other SEC schools hiring coaches and becoming very respectable dast then producing tournament ready teams like Vandy in half the time. 0-3 is not on track to even get in.

I agree. I was just hoping. There has been ample time to become respectable under him. And I don’t dislike him. But I want a basketball program where expectations go beyond just hoping to make the tournament. And LSU has had more than enough opportunities to hire a coach who can be a difference maker that can turn this around. So Verge has to change make that type of hire.

It IS forced. He and his program are just empty platitudes. Like things he’s heard great coaches once say…but he doesn’t actually implement any of it. LSU has never had any sort of identity under him. Hell, he even just adopted the “boot up” tag line from the previous guy

I had more respect for Trent Johnson. He was just naturally a sphinx on sidecourt -- never even attempted to be emotional. And after one good season he was just a terrible coach.

He’s getting in a little cardio to loosen up those Xs and Os he’s so widely attributed for having without any evidence to support.

Meanwhile, Dale, Wade, etc. are called terrible floor coaches in comparison.

Basketball at LSU has become completely irrelevant. Cut both the men and womes basketball programs and give that $$ to Jay Johnson and the baseball program .

Even during pretty good seasons, baseball has still lost money while men’s basketball actually made money during terrible seasons. Basketball has a wider reach than baseball and is better exposure for the overall brand of LSU.

I don't watch basketball but it's easy to assume nothing has changed and the reason he isn't winning is because he doesn't have the players nor is he good enough to turn chicken shite into chicken salad.

LSU got Trent Johnson’d again.

Trent had Lopez twins. McMahon had JaMorant.

he needs real talent before you can make an honest call, this roster is good, not very good or great.

they play hard. not sure if we will really spend money while he is here though to evaluate.

I don't defend Johnson, or McMahon much. But like MANY things said about the basketball program, this is groupthink falsehood.

Johnson had success at Nevada before he got the Stanford job. The twins helped him have success at Stanford. But it isn't like he had not had success without them.

McMahon won without Morant. In fact, his best season (the year before he was hired by LSU) was without Morant.

Why both failed at LSU is neither fully embraced what it takes to win at LSU and in the SEC. Neither are engaging personalities that were eager to work the donor base for the money every program needs. Neither wanted to get into the mud of basketball recruiting (which is a dirty business). And neither are good enough technical coaches to compete with the average rosters they built.

Most SEC hires come from the mid major ranks. This notion that LSU should be able to poach a successful HC from a major conf. school is reflective of another problem much of the fans have. They view basketball through a football/baseball prism. All of mid-major hires don't work out. The "sin" was not hiring Johnson, or McMahon. Both had good resumes. The "sin" was letting their tenures drag on too long once it became clear they were in over their heads.

For Johnson, that was clear after year 3. Yet, Alleva gave him year 4 and would have given him year 5 if Johnson didn't parachute out to TCU. For McMahon, it was clear after year 1. But even if LSU didn't want to make a change after year 1 it was totally obvious to all, except for an odd handful of fans that are determined to justify McMahon's performance with every excuse possible, after last season. Yet, here we are with another wasted season before doing the inevitable.
