Do you play a softer ball in the cold?

Makes logical sense, ball doesn’t compress as well in the cold, greens don’t hold as well usually. Does anyone here do that? Do pros?

Nah. I just club up. Easier for me to grab an extra club on a shot than wonder what a new ball might do around the green and mess my short game up.
Not a bad theory though.

I just swing harder. I have about 7 gears in my golf swing. When it gets cold, I'll just enter 5th gear or so to make up for any lost yardage.

I don't play any ball in the cold anymore. But when I did I just clubbed up.

There are a bunch of videos on You tube about using softer balls in winter or when you get older. It makes sense to do so based on most of the testing if you have a slower swing speed, but in reality how many rounds in really cold weather do most people play? I tried a couple of the softer models (Titleist Tour Soft, Taylor Made Soft Response, Chrome Soft) and they did help me because of my slower swing speed. As a senior player it helps me but for younger guys it's probably not a real big difference.

I don’t change balls, but I often move up teeboxes when it’s cold, especially if it’s also wet.

I'm not good enough that it matters

the left dot performed well enough for me in the cold this weekend.

55 and under with 15mph wind, I'm out. In the 50's, sunny and little to no wind, I'll play and use the same ball, Maxfli TourX
