For example, the eyes of the new Barbie shift slightly to the side to represent how some people with autism sometimes avoid direct eye contact, he said. The doll also was given articulated elbows and wrists to acknowledge stimming, hand flapping and other gestures that some autistic people use to process sensory information or to express excitement, according to Mattel.

I mean, there's nothing inherently wrong with this. It's just stupid.

As the dad of a little girl whose been into Barbie's for a long time and has spent his fair share of time down the Barbie Isle at Walmart and Target, this has existed for years.

Autistic Barbie

Autism doesn’t really cause many physical changes in an individual from a pure physical perspective. It’s mostly the mannerisms that drive the physical appearance differences. So not really sure how this Barbie would look different than any other Barbie.

Also doesn’t make much sense to me to make an autistic Barbie. Autistic Barbie would hate to be played with and touched by random people

One year, long, long ago, I "won" one of these at the company white elephant gift exchange. Unfortunately, somebody stole it out of my office during covid.

Couldn't any Barbie be autistic. These seems very counterproductive (and just dumb) to whatever inclusion/acceptance message they are trying to push.
