Rheem today

I have 2 Rheem HVAC units, and both have worked flawlessly for the last 17.5 years. I attritube it to a proper install and preventive maintenance for the most part, but obviously at that time Rheem made a solid product.
How do today's Rheem HVAC units stack up?

I replaced a 20-yr old Rheem unit with the same (Ruud). During the second year, both the condenser and main unit fans failed. Both were replaced under the 10 yr warranty and everything has been great the past 6 years.

Based on reliability survey data, not as solid as some others. But that may be related to the install.
Here is what CR reports
The left side is reliability, and the right side is owner satisfaction.
How does each Central Air Conditioner brand rank?
Consumer Reports surveyed members who purchased a total of 13,306 new central air conditioners from 2009-2024.
Reliability (Left Side)
Did the brand perform consistently well over time?
Predicted brand reliability scores are based on the likelihood of newly purchased central air conditioners experiencing a problem, adjusted for extended warranty or service contract status and product usage, by the end of the 8th year of ownership. Higher scores mean better reliability.
Owner Satisfaction(Right Side)
Would our members recommend this brand?
Brand owner satisfaction scores are based on how likely owners are to recommend their central air conditioner to their friends and family.
Remember, these are surveys, so rely on feedback from owners.
Several of these brands are owned by the same parent company.

I got 22 years out of my 1/2000 Ruud heat pump, it was flawless for 20 of those years. Ruud=Rheem

What is the difference between the two, if they are owned by the same parent company?
Warranty?

I have 2 Rheem units, 10 yrs old. Downstairs needed a coil replaced luckily it was under warranty but the freon and labor weren't covered. Also it lost connectivity with the thermostat and my guy had to get Rheem techs involved etc. They finally told him to rewire the whole unit to a new thermostat (not using existing wiring) and it works, but it's not performing as well as in the past. It's been a rough ride tbh.
Upstairs unit has been perfect, knock on wood.

I've been around here so long, Chicken allowed me to be grand-fathered in with a motion avatar.

They used to be, and I can't say they still are the same parent Co. I replaced the old Ruud with a Bosch inverter dual fuel heat pump and later put a regular Bosch inverter on our Barndominium build. No problems with either at this time.

The plastic badge they slap on at the end... same factory, same parts, same techs. Anecdotally I think they sell more Rheem in the north with bigger heat kits, and more Ruud down south with more on the air side

Good to know.
I will say that I am far more familiar with the name Rheen than I am Ruud.
