Nick Saban’s role at LSU in 1987–1988 was as the Defensive Backs (DB) Coach.
Head Coach at LSU: Mike Archer
Archer had taken over in 1987 after Bill Arnsparger left to become the New York Giants’ defensive coordinator.
Saban worked specifically with the defensive backs and helped implement the secondary schemes during those seasons.
So his LSU stint in the late ’80s was as a position coach, not coordinator, under Mike Archer.
This is from chatgbt.....and I never had any idea about this, and therefore, I am questioning the validity. Is it incorrect?

None of that is close to being true.
Nick Saban never coached at LSU prior to being hired in Dec 1999.
Arnsparger left to be UF AD.

what did you ask chatgpt in order for it to give that garbage out? Wikipedia has all his stops as assistant and head coach from 1973-2023, and they have it for every coach.

You must ALWAYS check what any AI tells you for a lot of reasons, ChatGPT is no exception. I have many, many hours of interaction with it and some with Perplexity. You must be very careful.

Yeah, Chat GPT has its holes...I use the $20 a month option, and yesterdaty it thought Brian Kelly was still our head coach...
Wikipedia is the best source for a coach's resume...

The main hole is that people use ChatGPT and mistake it for a web browser. ChatGPT =/= the internet.

Nick coached by Mike Archer? Now that’s funny.
He coached under Jerry Glanville once and had to have police protection because of one of the things Jerry said.
But no. Nick was not here back then.
