My MIL told my granddaughter yesterday that she doesn't have to flush every time that she pees because it is a waste of water.

What?

Yes. I live in south Louisiana; we aren’t desperate enough for water to justify letting piss sit in my toilet.

Tell her peeing in the back yard is even more economical and nourishes the plants.

Yes.

I could see if someone was living on a cistern where they might not.

Same here.
I asked her when she came up with this advice and she said she's always been that way.

She's 83, getting old and senile is tough.

My MIL "saves flushes".... I don't even know what the hell she means. It is gross though, lol. Anytime we visit I send my husband in first to clear the bathroom.

During the drought years ago I had a coworker say, if its yellow let it mellow if its brown flush it down.

No but it makes sense if yoyr water bill is high. When we had a villa in St. Croix it was necessary otherwise we would have to get water trucked in

If it's clear, sometimes I'll put the lid down and not flush. But if it's LSU yelllow and definitely not clear, definitely flush.

Tell her to go pee outside like her ancestors do and she won’t have to worry about wasting water

If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down.
