Thank you for your service. More than 99% of us don't have your perspective.

Looking back (unfair...hindsight is 20/20), do you think our invasion and occupation was a good thing?

I think it would have been a completely different ballgame if we hadn’t done the de Baathification and completely disbanded all of the Iraqi security forces. It’s like Paul Bremer was actively trying to throw the country into chaos.

No. I was there in the beginning for 15 months straight. Mostly Baghdad.

Thanks, Twix. What did y'all think of Bremer at the time?

I met him when we were trying to train the local security forces. Most of us were just kids. We didn't know shite.

Thanks, Least. When did you come to that conclusion? What did most of your unit think about y'all's deployment the time?

They were. It could have ended in the first year, but that was never the goal.

It sucked arse being there in the beginning as there was no infrastructure. We were a scout unit. I slept on a board propped up on 2 boxes of bleach outside. Ate the same A rats, MREs for days at a time. We had a filter for water. They pumped it out of the Tigris river and put bleach in it after. That doesn't even cover people getting blow away by IEDs constantly. I didn't realize what a waste it was until maybe 10 years ago. Again we were all kids mostly.

Bush was just an idiot figure head… this is probably more proof that the intelligence agency and military industrial complex are pulling the levers of power.

Also way they hate Trump so much. He tells them to fck off

It was a waste in the sense that we could have completed the mission in maybe 14 months max, bailed and been done with it. Instead we wasted years in a political quagmire with nothing to show for it in the end.
BIGGEST lesson that should have been learned is if you commit have an objective, complete it, know your endgame, and be done.
We should have learned that in Korea and Vietnam tho.

Thanks, Harvey. I didn't think it was right to upvote that.

I hope for the best for the Iraqi people as that is the only thing to be gained. But no it wasn’t worth it.

I doubt it was worth it for taxpayers.
Personally, it was one of the great adventures of my life.

It is encouraging that Trump doesn't want an occupation in Venezuela.
